Leading EPON System Vendor ZTE, Technology Pioneer ETRI, and Key Optical Component Supplier CyOptics Join Vitesse to Accelerate 10G-PON Deployments
BEIJING--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (Pink Sheets:VTSS), a leading provider of advanced IC solutions for Carrier and Enterprise networking, today announced it has expanded its recently announced Next-Generation Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTx) Technology Ecosystem with the addition of three industry leading companies: ZTE Corporation; Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI); and CyOptics. Brought together to accelerate the deployment of next-generation 10G-PON systems, Vitesse’s industry leading effort was formulated to accelerate innovation, supply key components, and enhance service delivery in response to increased residential bandwidth needs requiring the deployment of next-generation residential and business optical fiber deployment which will deliver a 10x improvement in communication speeds.
“To support the rapidly expanding PON requirements, ZTE has worked closely with Vitesse to design and validate new 10G-EPON platforms which will allow us to meet our very tight deployment schedules,” said Mr. RunBin Ma, chief architect of Network Planning & System Design group, ZTE.
“Vitesse and ETRI have a long history of cooperation on past technological advancements. We look forward to continuing this close relationship on our 10G-PON research and participating in the FTTx Technology Ecosystem along its other industry leaders,” said Dr. Dongsoo Lee, team leader 10G-PON, ETRI.
“CyOptics is committed to the development of transmit and receive solutions for the next-generation PON systems,” said Kou-Wei Wang, CyOptics’ vice president and general manager. “We are working with Vitesse on a 10G-EPON XFP transceiver reference design for the ONU using CyOptics’ TOSAs and ROSAs and Vitesse’s 10G-EPON chipset to accelerate the optical module and system deployments.”
ZTE Corporation, a leading supplier of telecommunication and network solutions worldwide, maintains a strong emphasis in the PON space with more than 12 million ports in use. The company is now moving aggressively to develop and deploy next-generation systems as evidenced by its recent announcement of the world’s first symmetrical 10G-EPON system at the China FTTH Summit 2009.
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has long been a technology leader specializing in the telecommunications arena. Many of its innovations have been adopted by telecom equipment vendors around the world and have specifically contributed to the strong vendor base in Korea. ETRI currently focuses its extensive resources on next-generation PON applications, including 10G-PON.
CyOptics, an industry leader in optical chips and components for integration into communication systems, provides hybrid integration using different elements in a single package and monolithic integration. CyOptics has a strong presence in current GEPON and GPON markets and delivers high-performance, cost-effective optical components for next-generation systems.
“We are pleased to add ZTE, ETRI, and CyOptics to the FTTx Technology Ecosystem,” said Gary Paules, product marketing manager at Vitesse. “Vitesse is dedicated to working with a broad set of leading technology companies around the globe to deliver world-class solutions and services. These newest members bring specific expertise to the FTTx Technology Ecosystem in components, systems, and carrier networks that will hasten deployment in the fast growing Asia-Pacific FTTx market.”
In addition to Vitesse, the original FTTx Technology Ecosystem members included MAC vendor, Teknovus; test equipment supplier, Anritsu; and optical component manufacturer, Emcore. Working closely with the FTTx Ecosystem members, Vitesse continues to expand its IC contributions to 10G-EPON deployments with the volume production release of the VSC8479-01 Burst Mode 10G SerDes and sample release of a complete 10G-EPON XFP module reference design. Vitesse’s XFP module reference design is targeted for 10G-EPON symmetric ONU/ONT applications utilizing Vitesse’s industry-proven PMD chipset including 10G burst mode driver, 10G APD ROSA with TIA and 10G post limiting amplifier. In addition, the XFP reference design uses the industry’s latest 10G-EPON compliant TOSA and ROSA which are designed in standard XMD-MSA fit and form-factor. The reference design achieves real world, high-performance interoperability in common design platforms to accelerate time-to-market.
Vitesse Participates at OptiNet and Computex
Both the VSC8479-01 SerDes and the XFP reference designs will be demonstrated at OptiNet China 2009 in Beijing and at Computex Taipei 2009 with participating FTTx Technology Ecosystem members. Teknovus has selected Vitesse as its SerDes provider and will have an open demonstration at OptiNet China this week.
