Expects Acceptance Occurring Once it is Viewed as 'Utility-Like Infrastructure'
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Speaking today before several CIOs and other top public cloud IT decision makers, Infoblox CIO Benny Kirsh lauded the benefits of cloud computing. However, Kirsh cautioned that the much-hyped public cloud services are still far from achieving the true business agility that most enterprises seek.
Speaking during a panel, Business Drivers Versus Legislation and Standards Driving Cloud Services, at the ISACA Summer Conference in Santa Clara, Kirsh said the public cloud has a great marketing message but needs to show quickly that it can provide real-world value.
"Most of the cloud we think of today is SaaS remarketed with a new name. The problem is how long it's taking to provide actual value, and until public cloud can be a real-time infrastructure that aligns to the real-time needs of businesses, it will continue to face skepticism," according to Kirsh.
Kirsh added that public cloud will start to gain acceptance when enterprises view them similarly to a utility. "It has to be lights off and lights on. What the market is looking for is a utility-like infrastructure, aligning public cloud to business needs and user needs in real time. We still do not have the light-switch model yet for public cloud computing."
Cloud computing, however, has brought more applications and functionality to the masses; cloud computing has made virtual environments the norm, rather than the exception.
"We are on the brink of an IT sea change, moving from static to truly dynamic environments," added Kirsh. "The evolution of new automated network services and tools to accommodate this transition is now imperative, critical - and overdue."
