DELLIS CAY, Turks & Caicos--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Thursday, June 4, 2009, marked the one-year anniversary of the official groundbreaking of Dellis Cay, a private island resort and residential development located in the Turks & Caicos Islands, British West Indies. The festivities on Dellis Cay celebrated the progress on the island since the commencement of construction this time last year on June 4, 2008, and anticipated the future grand opening of the island, which is slated for mid-2010.
The 140 guests included future Dellis Cay residents, Turks & Caicos (TCI) government officials, members of the TCI community as well as team members of The O Property Collection, development company behind the visionary project, and Dellis Construction Ltd., the construction company tasked with the realization of the project. While everyone was impressed by the year’s progress on the island, they were treated to live musical entertainment, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Pastor Courtney Missick blessed the Dellis Cay project and all involved in it, before Dr. Cem Kinay, CEO & Chairman of The O Property Collection and the TCI Premier, Honorable Galmo Williams each gave emotional speeches.
There are currently over 300 construction workers building Mandarin Oriental Dellis Cay and its facilities, including the Piero Lissoni designed Beach House Residences, Beach Villas and Ocean Villas. Thus far, an impressive 735,000 man-hours have been invested in the construction during this first year to accomplish near completion on all Piero Lissoni villa and Beach House Residence roofs. 20,000 cubic meters of concrete have been incorporated and building materials have been sourced from over 13 countries to maintain the highest levels of quality demanded by the team of globally leading architects designing for Dellis Cay. A nursery has been recently completed on Dellis Cay to protect the integrity and natural beauty of the island and allow for native vegetation to be raised for landscaping.
Dellis Cay is located just 565-miles south of Miami, and is being designed by six of the world’s leading architects including Shigeru Ban (Tokyo), David Chipperfield (London), Carl Ettensperger (Singapore), Zaha Hadid (London), Kengo Kuma (Tokyo) and Piero Lissoni (Milan). Opening in 2010, the masterpiece island will be managed by the acclaimed Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and will feature the most lavish spa in the Caribbean designed by Kengo Kuma. Dellis Cay will feature a wide variety of amenities ranging from a tennis center, a 9-hole golf course, a jogging trail and a full array of watersports activities such as certified scuba diving and windsurfing.
