SEATTLE--(Global Startup Battle winner, Awesome Ship. The competition, designed to foster friendly competition and community awareness among the global Startup Weekend community, kicked off one week ago. Fifty winning teams from Startup Weekend events that took place Nov. 11-14, 2011 and Nov. 18-20, 2011 were given the chance to compete to become the ultimate Global Startup Battle winner. More than 36,000 people participated via the Startup Weekend Facebook fan page.

More than 60 communities spread over five continents held Startup Weekends over these two weekends as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW). In total, more than 4,500 attendees, mentors, speakers and judges worked on startup ideas during these events, with thousands of ideas pitched and hundreds of teams formed.
