AUCKLAND, New Zealand--()--Covey Consulting, a world leader in technical investigation with expertise in pulp and paper, has confirmed that testing of three Cottonsoft retail products, produced by Asia Pulp & Paper Group (APP), shows they are composed of standard species from pulpwood plantations.
The key findings were:
“The three tissue samples were made up of hardwood fibres mostly from Acacia and Eucalypt trees (64-97%), with a small amount of softwood fibres from northern hemisphere Spruce and Pine trees (3-36%).”
“Minor traces of unidentified hardwood vessels and softwood fibres species found in the samples may be due to fibre damage in the pulping and paper making process or because other species have entered the pulp fibre stream at some point. This could possibly be due to contamination of waste fibre in the pulp or paper making process, or incidental harvesting of other species that occasionally self-generate in fast growing plantation environments.”
“There is no evidence from the fibre analysis that multi-species native tropical forest hardwood was used for the fibres in the Cottonsoft tissues.”
In a new statement, Cottonsoft said:
“It is time to stop issuing misleading statements about Cottonsoft products. These test results clearly show that Cottonsoft tissues are NOT produced from any native tropical rainforests. These products are produced from standard pulpwood plantation fibres.”
