DRESDEN, Germany--(Novaled AG, a leading company in the sector for technology and materials for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), is pleased to announce that Federal President Christian Wulff has awarded the German Future Prize for Technology and Innovation to three Novaled founders.
)--The team comprising Prof. Karl Leo (Technical University and Fraunhofer IPMS Dresden), Dr. Jan Blochwitz-Nimoth (Novaled AG) and Dr. Martin Pfeiffer (Heliatek GmbH) received the prize from the German Federal President in Berlin. Awarded on an annual basis, the prize is worth EUR 250,000 and rewards creative work groups that achieve groundbreaking results in science and then apply the newly acquired knowledge to the industrial sector. “I’m particularly pleased that this team has won the prize … their research topic is a great confidence booster, as it can help us achieve a transition in energy”, stated Mr. Wulff.
“This highly coveted award is a strong endorsement for all our Novaled colleagues and our partners”, said Dr. Blochwitz-Nimoth, Chief Scientific Officer at Novaled. “At the same time, it will encourage people to believe in our vision and to carry on working to ensure that organic electronics appreciably improve our lives in the 21st century.”
The winning team made remarkable developments in the field of Organic Electronics. At the Technical University of Dresden, the three scientists have developed unique OLED technology designed to drastically reduce energy consumption and increase the lifespan of such products. This will enable novel visionary applications, which also save on resources, to become a reality in various areas of our lives.
Leo, Blochwitz-Nimoth and Pfeiffer have established and developed a cutting-edge organic electronics cluster in Germany (Saxony), particularly with the launch of Novaled AG and Heliatek GmbH (organic solar cells manufacturer, OSCs).
The spin-off Novaled successfully entered the market with OLED technology and materials, which are now being applied in a new generation of colorful flat panel displays, such as smartphones, energy-saving lighting as well as efficient and flexible OSCs.
