Deutsche Telekom and Lattelecom set up a new telecommunications route between Western Europe and Russia via the Baltic States

Bonn/Riga January 20, 2012: Deutsche Telekom International Carrier Sales & Solutions (ICSS), the wholesale arm of Deutsche Telekom AG and Lattelecom today announced that they have signed an agreement to jointly deploy the Baltic Telecommunications Highway. This Highway is deemed to serve the increasing Internet-traffic demands between Western Europe and Russia via the Baltic States.

The parties will cooperate to set-up a joint fiber-infrastructure across the Baltics, Poland and Germany, which will deploy a state-of-the-art network technology to allow transmission speed of up to n * 10 Gbps. The Baltic Highway will provide first class quality transmission with unprecedented low latency. Beyond their respective home-countries, the parties will also make significant investments in Poland and Lithuania to complement the Baltic Highway.

"By partnering with Lattelecom, we bring businesses in the Baltic States and beyond access to a European next generation network. The Baltic states as well as Russia have witnessed a substantial surge in demand for network connectivity, and through the Baltic Highway we will jointly provide enhanced connectivity for the region", said Holger Magnussen, Senior Vice President International Carrier Sales & Solutions (ICSS).
