Latest Line Matrix Printer Family Combines Strength and Flexibility of Industrial Printing with Graphic Performance Needed within Modern ERP Environments

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Printronix, Inc., the worldwide leader in business-critical printing solutions, today launched the world’s first PostScript and PDF® line matrix printer through the introduction of its new OpenPrint™ technology. Compatible with today’s modern enterprise resource planning (ERP) environments, including Oracle®, SAP®, Linux and Windows®, OpenPrint is now enabled on Printronix’s P7000 High Definition (HD) Cartridge Series of Line Matrix Printers. This marks the first time that a high volume, mission critical printer technology has been brought to market combining the flexibility and enhanced graphic performance of PostScript and PDF with the unmatched reliability, the lowest cost of printing and unique environmental advantages of line matrix printers.

“Printronix’s breakthrough OpenPrint platform offers our customers an unprecedented opportunity to implement the industrial strength of line matrix technology within most ERP environments,” said Mark Edwards, senior vice president, global sales and marketing, for Printronix, Inc. “The easy and instant connectivity of PostScript and PDF files enables IT administrators to quickly deploy new forms and business documents to their Printronix line matrix printers in environments using business critical ERP software.”

Support of Major Operating Systems Offers Highest Level of Connectivity and Productivity

OpenPrint supports fail-proof printing for manufacturing, banking, supply chain and back office users with advanced graphics controllable from any major graphical user interface (GUI) design program. The OpenPrint™ P7000HD family of line matrix printers produce scannable bar codes, high quality text and fonts - from six point to poster size - within the printer, resulting in enhanced form readability and utility. The introduction of PostScript and PDF capabilities allows line matrix users to continue to rely on Printronix printers when migrating to modern IT environments, without requiring complicated network installed print drivers.

Cost-Effective Replacements for High Speed Serial Dot Matrix and Laser Printers

Printronix’s OpenPrint line matrix printers are superior performers in mission critical high speed print applications, even in harsh working environments. The latest OpenPrint-enabled P7000HD Series models require less downtime and maintenance for cartridge ribbon changes. The result is more uptime with lower service and operating costs. Line matrix cartridge consumables last longer and are six times less expensive than laser toner cartridges. This is especially important in production environments where consumable costs dominate the total cost of ownership. As printing volume increases, line matrix’s consumable savings grow dramatically.

Unique Environmental Advantages

The OpenPrint P7000HD Cartridge Series of Line Matrix Printers is ENERGY STAR® qualified, providing operational energy savings compared to laser printers. Additional environmental advantages include: less consumable waste, use of high recycled content paper, easier recycling of printed paper, less ozone depletion and none of the fine particulate emissions found in laser toner cartridges. In addition, the OpenPrint Printronix P7000HD Cartridge Family is engineered to last for years. This is a key ecological benefit over shorter life cycle products such as laser and serial printers.

“With OpenPrint, users can count on the high reliability performance and low cost of operation of line matrix, now with the clarity and ease-of-use they have come to expect from PostScript and PDF ERP printing,” said Edwards.

The Printronix OpenPrint P7000HD Family of High Definition Line Matrix Printers includes:

  • Open Pedestal - The open pedestal printer is presented in a small footprint with the convenience of either top tear or rear output. It is compact enough to move around in just about any industrial environment including loading docks, machine shops and factories.
  • Quiet Cabinet - Configured in a fully enclosed sound reduction secure cabinet with access from the front and the rear, the Cabinet models offer mission-critical line matrix printer solutions for those who work in noise sensitive areas or for those with applications requiring very large, unattended print runs.
  • Zero Tear - The specialized Zero Tear line matrix printer supports customers using multi-part and serialized documents that require on-demand single form printing. They are designed to eliminate waste and reduce operating costs.
