Leaders of Gas Majors to address 25th World Gas Conference

Some of the world's most influential gas producers, including Shell, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, RasGas and Qatargas will participate as keynote speakers at the inaugural 25th World Gas Conference, sharing rare and insightful views on the sustainability and future growth of natural gas.

Utilising WGC2012 as a platform to generate discussion and debate on some of the most pressing issues within the natural gas industry today, these gas captains will also share prospects and challenges on the future of the industry.

The World Gas Conference has often been termed, "the Olympics of the gas industry," due to its important contribution to the development of natural gas and the road to a low carbon society.

"The conference, themed 'Gas: Sustaining Future Growth', has drawn a huge following, with a record of 712 abstracts from International Gas Union (IGU) members. From this, we've selected 352 papers from 46 countries," said Datuk Dr Rahim Hashim, IGU President, 2009-2012 Triennium.

 

Conference Highlights

Day One will begin with a strong line up of speakers addressing the theme 'Foundation for Growth.' Chaired by Datuk Anuar Ahmad, Executive Vice President, Gas & Power Business, PETRONAS, the first keynote address will be presented by Peter Voser, CEO, Royal Dutch Shell on, "Natural Gas for Sustainable Global Growth," followed by a keynote presentation on "A New Outlook for Natural Gas," by Rex W Tillerson, Chairman & CEO, Exxon Mobil Corporation.

On the same day, with demonstrated leadership on energy policy at a national, regional and global level, Maria van der Hoeven, Executive Director, International Energy Agency, will deliver a luncheon address on "The Energy Challenge & the Role of Natural Gas."

The theme for Day Two is 'Securing Gas Supply', with morning keynote addresses presented by George Kirkland, Vice Chairman & Executive Vice President, Global Upstream & Gas, Chevron Corporation on "Securing Future Gas Supplies," and Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, Managing Director, RasGas Company Limited on "The Next Phase for Global LNG."

Day Three will cover the theme 'Enhancing Gas Demand', with keynote speakers from KOGAS, The Japan Gas Association, CNPC and American Gas Association who together with others speakers, will discuss the strong appetite and demand for gas at a national and global levels.

On the final day, to wrap up the conference and address the critical goal of "A Sustainable Future," Christophe de Margerie, Chairman & CEO, TOTAL will present a keynote address on "Challenges Along the Gas Chain," and Gérard Mestrallet, CEO, GDF SUEZ will present on "The Natural Choice for a Sustainable Future." Also providing invaluable insight will be Dr Daniel Yergin, Chairman, IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates (IHS CERA), a highly respected authority on energy, international politics and economics, who will deliver a luncheon address on "The Paradox of Gas."

In addition to a powerful line up of 14 keynote speakers, WGC2012 hosted by PETRONAS, will also feature 10 Strategic Panels, four Luncheon Addresses, 42 Technical Sessions, 135 Poster Sessions, 17 Expert Forums and Three Task Force Sessions. Designed to be fully integrated into the conference facility and programme, the 10,800sqm exhibition floor at WGC2012 will also unite major players and suppliers featuring over 200 exhibitors.

Designed to serve all kinds of music ranging from orchestra with chorus, Malaysian traditional dance and solo violin, the evening aims to showcase beautiful traditional pieces of gamelan music styled with a modern touch. Designed by acoustic consultant Kirkegaard Associates from Chicago, highlights will include a concealed movable ceiling that can change the acoustic volume of the room, eclectic sound of the gamelan featuring stories from different countries and souvenir presents.
