SHANGHAI -- (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) will showcase several of its advanced glass technologies during FPD China 2012, held March 20-22 at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre. The 54-square-meter exhibition booth, located at #1657 in Hall E1, will feature Corning LotusTM Glass for high-performance displays, next-generation Corning® Gorilla® Glass, ultra-slim flexible glass, and EAGLE XG® Slim Glass substrates.
Visitors to the booth can see how Corning is helping to advance display products by providing a range of glasses addressing today's trends. For example, Gorilla Glass, which is currently used by 33 major brands, designed into more than 600 product models, and featured on more than 600 million devices worldwide, helps meet the demand for durable display glass. Corning Gorilla Glass 2 is the next generation of the popular damage-resistant cover glass for consumer electronic devices enabling up to a 20% reduction in cover glass thickness. Booth visitors can experience the new glass's performance through a live demo. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn the attributes of Corning Lotus Glass, which helps enable organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays and next-generation liquid crystal displays (LCD).
In a keynote speech at the China FPD Conference, which will be held in conjunction with the exhibition, Li Fang, president, Corning Display Technologies China, will share Corning's perspective on the current TFT-LCD market. "Today, the display industry is focused on much more than creating larger screen sizes. It is moving toward advanced displays that are thinner and more durable with higher resolutions and increased performance," Li said. "As a result, Corning is diversifying its portfolio to help its customers meet industry trends."
It is estimated that China's end-market demand will continue to grow within the next three years.
"As a market leader in the TFT-LCD glass industry, Corning is strongly committed to growing with the Chinese market and supporting our customers with industry-leading glass technologies," Li said. "Our new facility with Gen 8.5 glass-melting and finishing capabilities in Beijing is the company's first full LCD glass substrate facility in mainland China. We're excited that the construction is on track, and production is slated to begin in the second half of this year."
