Cambridge Industries Group leverages Spirent iTest® automation solution to reduce development overhead costs, improve product build times and reduce time-to-market

BEIJING--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cambridge Industries Group (CIG), an independent original equipment manufacturer of Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) equipment, selected Spirent iTest® to increase its productivity and reduce cost of testing during research & development. Spirent iTest is a platform that offers productivity gains through embedded test expertise, improved collaboration, integrated test orchestration, optimized test execution and efficient utilization of resources. With Spirent iTest, CIG is better able to address the high volume and complex testing requirements of GPON.

With the rapid developments in PON/GPON technologies, CIG needed to significantly shorten the product release cycle times. CIG took advantage of Spirent iTest’s comprehensive approach to rapid development, automation and execution of test cases. Spirent iTest enabled CIG to accelerate testing throughout its quality assurance process by reducing manual testing tasks while enabling team members to contribute to automation objectives, without needing specialized scripting expertise.

“We required a solution that was powerful yet easy to use and would enable engineers of all skill levels to contribute to the test automation process,” said Haibo Zhao, CTO at Cambridge Industries Group. “With Spirent iTest, we have increased the value provided by our test engineers, reduced our overhead costs, better leveraged existing resources, and improved time to market for our products.”

Spirent iTest provides unique capabilities, including:

  • Complete end-to-end system testing with support for 30 different session types allowing for native control of different devices simultaneously.
  • Two to five times faster test authoring with capture/replay, response mapping, and pass/fail wizards capability, meaning that new test cases can be developed very quickly either with planned or exploratory testing without detailed programming or scripting knowledge.
  • Streamline team collaboration that allows standard test assets to be easily shared between teams and customers/suppliers. iTest separates the test case, response map, topology and parameters so that test cases can be more easily shared, re-used, and maintained.
  • Automated documentation and results capture all testing activities done by users and the responses from devices.

“Today’s advanced communication network equipment developers and testers face numerous challenges,” said Gene Zhang, vice president and general manager, Asia Pacific at Spirent Communications. “They must ensure the quality of increasingly complex services and products, meet tight time-to-market deadlines, and work with globally distributed teams with diverse skill sets. Spirent iTest® is a powerful testing solution designed to help teams maximize efficiency and resources.”
