READING, England & SAN FRANCISCO & SINGAPORE--(http://tiny.cc/globalworking.*
)--Global Integration, the training consultancy specializing in workplace success for complex organizations, ran a video competition aimed at capturing thoughts and ideas on global working. Today it has shared the learning from that activity in the form of a downloadable report:The two things that set the competition apart were that it was an international competition, and that it was being run by a company working in a niche business to business field – not a household name.
“As a mid-sized business to business company we could find few successful examples of this being done, and we love to experiment. It’s a great way for us to keep our skills contemporary and face some of the same challenges as our customers,” said Kevan Hall, CEO, Global Integration. “We knew at the outset we would be able to share what we learnt, which was considerable. Publishing it is one of the ways to ‘give back’ to the people who helped make this a success.”
The top ten learnings were:
1. Plan your competition landing page well.
2. Choose your judges well.
3. Don’t expect masses of entries. Even huge companies with matching budgets don’t manage this.
4. Allow as much lead time as possible and plan, plan, plan.
5. Personal relationships and social capital translate into action.
6. However, propelling a competition using social media alone is a risky strategy. Plan to give a helping hand using social advertising. (This does not have to be expensive to be effective).
7. Build in flexibility.
8. Stay available for entrants to ask questions.
9. There will always be last minute entries – and lots of them. Make sure that you can cope technically.
10. As with just about anything online, be open to the unexpected. The benefits may come from the opportunity to engage with a wider audience rather than anything contrived.
