Digital and Music Matters 2012

SINGAPORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Branded Ltd. today announced the return of three signature events– DigitalMatters, Music Matters and Music Matters Live from 22nd to 26th May 2012 in Singapore, inspiring dialogue and collaboration with all that matters in the music and digital entertainment industries.

After five successful years in Hong Kong, Branded Ltd. brought the highly-anticipated Music Matters and Digital Matters industry forums to Singapore for the first time last year, with a total of 1,200 attendees from 30 countries converging in the city state. Hosted at The Ritz Carlton, Millenia Singapore, this year’s conference is set to play host to thousands of global entertainment digerati and music A-listers, showcasing the global online entertainment and music industry, with a focus on the Asian region.

A premier event on the digital media entertainment industry calendar, Digital Matters, held in association with Asia’s leading multi-channel industry association, CASBAA, from 22nd to 23rd May, provides a platform for digital entertainment businesses to address the critical issues of content monetisation and production in the digital age. Attendees can look forward to insights from industry leaders from Facebook, YouTube, SingTel, Zynga, Microsoft, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Turner, Polaroid, Ubisoft, Endemol, and more.

For the first time, Digital Matters will premier three workshops, Gaming Matters produced with GameSpot, to cover all aspects of the ‘Gamification’ process; Video Matters presented with Movideo and Akamai, providing practical take-aways on how to succeed with different business models for publishing online video to connected devices; and Adobe Digital Publishing Matters in association with SOPA, providing insight on how the publishing business is changing as the industry undergoes a digital transformation.

Highlights of the two conferences include the conclusions of a research study revealing the consumption patterns of digital media by Steve Garton, Managing Director – Media, Greater China, Ipsos. Preliminary insights into the consumption patterns in Asia Pacific indicate that at least one in three people have music apps while one in five people paid to download a music track significantly higher than previous surveys asking similar questions. All delegates will receive the detailed survey findings after the announcement at the “Research Matters” panel on 24th May 2012.

Music Matters, held from 24th to 26th May, is the pioneer industry event in the Asia-Pacific region and a gathering of key players in the global music industry. With a keen focus on key Asian music markets such as Japan, China, Korea and India, the conference shines the spotlight on issues such as consumption of digital music; what it takes to launch digital services in Asia; issues in music publishing and key factors to successful music festivals. Troy Carter, Lady Gaga’s manager, will join the stellar line-up of speakers at Music Matters.

“We’re thrilled to be returning to Singapore for the second year running. As a key platform for the music and digital entertainment industry in Asia, we believe Digital and Music Matters will continue to develop Singapore’s thriving entertainment scene and strengthen its position as a flourishing business and leisure destination,” said Jasper Donat, Co-Founder of Branded Ltd and President of Digital and Music Matters.

He added, “We also want to give fans an opportunity to come to the exclusive Nokia Above&Beyond Pool Party on 23rd at The Ritz Carlton so Nokia is very generously giving away 100 pairs of tickets via the Above&Beyond Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/aboveandbeyond?sk=app_347948281927789.

Supporting the local industry

In partnership with Branded Ltd and e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), The Singapore Music Society, a non-profit entity in support of the development of the local music industry, will be launching a slew of activities to inspire creativity and innovation that will transform the industry further.

A total of 130 passes will be donated by Music Matters to the local arts community comprising professionals and students, to meet with and learn from the global music industry’s elite executives attending Music Matters 2012.

Running concurrently with Music Matters is “Singapore Matters” Networking session and Mentor Master classes, which will provide attending musicians – both local and international, the opportunity to learn from experienced artist managers, producers, publishers and professionals and gain first hand creative advice which will help them further their music careers. Local bands that will be performing at Music Matters Live will have the chance to benefit from these sessions. They are provided free passes to the conferences and mentoring sessions to learn more about how to market themselves to the increasingly discerning music enthusiasts in Asia. These will be conducted by Bob Ezrin, Music and Entertainment Producer; John Meglen, President and Co-CEO, Concerts West/ AEG Live; Tod Machover, Professor of Music and Media, MIT Media Lab; Chuck Comeau, drummer for award winning punk rock band Simple Plan; Eric Lawrence, Manager for Simple Plan, among others.

The grand finale to culminate the week is Music Matters Live, a live music festival showcasing Asian and international bands and artists, taking place from 24th to 26th May 2012. Branded Ltd. is working with Singapore-based production company, The Deck, which is managing the ‘live’ webcast on the Festival’s Official Broadcast Partner, YouTube. Students from Singapore Polytechnic’s Diploma in Visual Effects and Motion Graphics have been roped in to gain first-hand experience and they will be assisting in filming the concert, including hand-held, track and dolly shots and managing the visual mix for the ‘live’ feed. Students from the Diploma in Music and Audio Technology will also be given the chance to learn on the job. They have been tasked to produce the audio mix for the ‘live’ feed and will be managing microphone inputs on stage and mixing these to provide an audible and exhilarating show for the Internet audience.

These students will get the necessary hands-on experience to enable a better understanding of the industry and how it operates – from filming to the production of live feeds; providing them with the opportunity to network with artists, business and production professionals.

“While we hope for the event to continue its growth and relevance to both the Asian and international markets, we also believe in the importance of providing opportunities for aspiring artists to be discovered by and learn from the industry's very best, whilst also giving students hands on experience in producing an Asian first,” added Jasper.
