HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--KBR (NYSE: KBR) announced today it has been awarded a contract to serve as engineering consultant for the 387-bed expansion of Acacia Prison in Wooroloo, Western Australia.

As engineering consultant for the overall $90 million expansion, KBR will undertake civil, structural, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and fire protection services. In addition, KBR will also provide ongoing site surveillance and reporting throughout the construction phase. The expanded infrastructure facility, which includes upgrades to the existing site and amenities, is part of the Government of Western Australia’s new custodial infrastructure program for the delivery of 1,650 new beds across the prison system.

KBR has been engaged by DORIC Contractors under a design contract. The project’s mission is to deliver a safe, secure and contemporary expansion of Acacia Prison by the end of 2014 – all to a tight budget and timeline and with minimal disruption to prison operations. KBR was the structural and civil engineering consultant for the existing Acacia Prison, which was built in 2001.
