MCLEAN, Va.--(
)--Hilton HHonors, the guest loyalty program for Hilton Worldwide’s 10 distinct hotel brands, and USA Volleyball today announced that they will host the Hilton HHonors Beach Volleyball Challenge at Hilton Hawaiian Village on Waikiki Beach, Saturday, October 20, 2012. As one of the most popular sports at the Olympic Games, the excitement of beach volleyball will continue this fall with some of the top women's and men’s beach volleyball players from Team USA and Team China competing during the event. The Team USA and Team China athletes scheduled to participate include:
- USA Teams: April Ross / Kerri Walsh (Women’s) and Todd Rogers / Phil Dalhausser (Men’s)
- China Teams: Chen Xue / Xi Zhang (Women’s) and Penggen Wu / Linyin Xu (Men’s)
“The Hilton HHonors Beach Volleyball Challenge is an extension of our partnership with USA Volleyball and will further connect our Hilton HHonors members and travelers alike to the Olympic movement,” said Jeff Diskin, senior vice president, global customer marketing, Hilton Worldwide. “This event complements both our U.S. Olympic Committee and Chinese Olympic Committee partnerships and is an opportunity to foster culture exchange between the U.S. and China through sport.”
The event location was chosen based on Hawaii’s long history of bringing volleyball to the beach, which dates back to 1915. Hilton HHonors and USA Volleyball are working together to transform Hilton Hawaiian Village into an authentic beach volleyball venue, ensuring that there will be a regulation court for the athletes and an exciting atmosphere for the spectators, families and fans at home.
“USA Volleyball is thrilled to partner with Hilton HHonors to host the Hilton HHonors Beach Volleyball Challenge,” said Dave Williams, managing director, USA Beach Volleyball. “We are always looking for ways to expand the reach of beach volleyball and see this as an opportunity to bring the sport to even more fans around the world.”
The matches will be broadcast on NBC in the United States and CCTV Sports in China later in the year.
In addition to hosting the Hilton HHonors Beach Volleyball Challenge at a Hilton Worldwide property, Hilton HHonors will provide rooms for Team USA and Team China athletes and coaches and offer special promotions for Hilton HHonors members.
