The 320-port S320 creates 32 terabit/s network fabric; new switch is smaller and lower power
BEIJING -- (BUSINESS WIRE) --
CALIENT Technologies, Inc., the global leader in photonic switching technology, today announced the Chinese availability of the S320 high-density photonic switch.
The S320 is used to create a network fabric with up to 320 connections and a capacity of 32 terabits per second. The switch allows any-to-any network connections with almost no latency and can be reconfigured through network management.
Each switch port is transparent to bit rate supporting data speeds to 100 Gbps. The S320 is used for data center, government and telecommunications service provider networks, including next-generation Software Defined Networks (SDN).
The heart of the S320 is the MEMS Switch Module 320 (MSM320), which switches up to 320 fiber optic signals from any input port to any output port. The module delivers switching speed of less than 25 milliseconds and offers redundant control processors.
"Many telecom carriers and corporations have aggressive plans to build fiber-optic networks. In this environment of rapid change, the connectivity and bandwidth of the S320 can speed deployment and provide new services," said Peter Kong, CALIENT Vice President of Sales for China. "Many important companies will be at the PT Expo Comm, which makes it a great place for CALIENT to debut this product to Chinese companies."
The S320 chassis fits in a 19" rack. Maximum power consumption is 45 watts, and the switch has 80 LC or MTP fiber connectors for a total of 640 fiber terminations supporting 1310nm and 1550nm single-mode fiber.
