STOCKHOLM--(
)--The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today announced that the 2013 International CES® is the largest app event in the world. Owned and produced by CEA, the 2013 International CES, the world’s largest annual innovation event, will take place January 8-11, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada.“Apps are everywhere; on our phones, computers and tablets. Apps are making their way into our everyday lives and, as a result, benefit our lifestyle,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. “The 2013 International CES is the only place in the world for developers to experience the largest gathering and broadest range of apps, from manufacturers, software providers and other developers. The entire apps program at CES can open doors through networking opportunities and offers the chance for app developers to display their skills.”
The App story at CES includes competitions, educational sessions and events that showcase the best of the app world. This year, apps at CES features: CEA MoDev Hackathon, CES Developer University, Appy Hour, Wall of Apps and a Mobile Apps Showdown.
During the CEA MoDev Hackathon, developers compete on the world’s technology stage at the 2013 CES. The competition features 25 teams of up to 4 people competing for glory and over $25,000 in cash and prizes. This special event is a live competition to see who’s got the best app idea and the skills to bring it to life in just one day on January 9, 2013, in The Venetian.
Returning for a second year, CES Developer University (Developer U) provides app developers the opportunity to learn about the new advancements from manufacturers and platform developers. Developer U allows for app developers to meet the widest array of platform developers, see live demos and make important business connections. Developer U is a free conference track so if you want to attend as an audience member, all you need to do is register for the 2013 CES. Developer U is scheduled for Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), South hall Connector in rooms S227 and S228.
CES’ Appy Hour is a new social media initiative directed to highlight a CES exhibiting company’s apps. Starting Monday, December 3, CES will feature these apps primarily through CES social media properties. CES exhibitors can submit their app for consideration through a form on the CES Facebook page starting November 5. Apps of all sorts are welcome, including apps specifically linked to products.
Located in the Grand Lobby of the LVCC, the Wall of Apps as CES showcases the most innovative apps from the past year and for the future. The Wall of Apps is a hands-on, curated display of the best apps available for iOS, Android, Blackberry and the new Windows Mobile. For developers who think their apps are the best of the bunch, the Mobile Apps Showdown at CES will put those apps to the test. App producers have two minutes to demo the app, and a winner is determined by an audience applause-o-meter. This year, Gary Dell’Abate and Jon Hein from the Sirius Radio’s Howard Stern Wrap Up Show host the Mobile Apps Showdown on Jan. 10, in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, room N255.
The 2013 CES will feature 3,000 global technology companies unveiling the latest consumer technology products and services across 15 major product categories including the latest in audio, automotive electronics, connected home technologies, digital imaging/photography, electronic gaming, entertainment/content and more.
