)--Jefferies Group today announced the expansion of its Asia Investment Banking business with five new senior appointments who will be based in Hong Kong, the firm’s Asian headquarters.“We welcome these outstanding senior professionals to our team and the considerable additional expertise they bring to our clients,” commented Benjamin D. Sherry Liu joins as Chairman of Asia and Vice Chairman of Global Investment Banking. Named one of the most influential women in finance in Asia by FinanceAsia, Ms. Liu will play a vital role in driving Jefferies Asian investment banking business. Ms. Liu brings to Jefferies over 18 years of investment banking experience and longstanding relationships with major corporations and business leaders across China. Her clients include many of the largest and most important companies in China across numerous sectors, including industrials, natural resources, power, consumer and financial services. Ms. Liu joins Jefferies from RBS, where she was Chairman and CEO of RBS China. Previously she spent seven years at JP Morgan, as a Vice Chairman of JP Morgan in China, four years at Lehman Brothers as Head of China Investment Banking and five years at CLSA as Head of China Investment Banking. Ms. Liu received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Beijing Capital Medical University and did her post graduate studies at Loyola University and the University of Chicago.
Danny Wong joins the firm as Managing Director and Head of Asia Equity Capital Markets. Mr. Wong brings to Jefferies more than 15 years of investment banking experience across Greater China and Southeast Asia. He joins Jefferies from Macquarie Capital Securities, where he spent seven years and was most recently a Managing Director and the Head of Equity Capital Markets for Greater China. Prior to that, he worked in investment banking in Asia at Credit Suisse and Merrill Lynch. Mr. Wong received his MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management and his Bachelor of Accountancy from National University of Singapore.
Charles Zhou joins as Managing Director and Senior China Coverage Officer in Investment Banking. Mr. Zhou brings to Jefferies over 13 years of investment banking experience in China, covering state-owned enterprises as well as private sector clients. Mr. Zhou joins Jefferies from RBS, where he was most recently a Managing Director for China Investment Banking. Prior to that, he spent three years at Nomura as an Executive Director for China Investment Banking and seven years at Lehman Brothers as a Senior Vice President for Investment Banking and Chief Representative of Lehman’s Beijing office. Mr. Zhou received a joint MBA from the University of Toronto and Hongzhong University of Science and Technology and received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Hongzhong University of Science and Technology.
Qing Zhu joins as Managing Director and Head of Asia Power and Utilities Investment Banking. He brings to Jefferies more than 14 years of investment banking experience covering power, utilities, natural resources and industrial companies. Mr. Zhu joins Jefferies from RBS, where he was most recently a Managing Director and Head of China Energy and Resources Investment Banking. Previously he spent three years at JP Morgan, where he was an Executive Director for Investment Banking, and prior to that, he spent five years at CLSA where he was Joint Head of China Investment Banking. Mr. Zhu received his MBA from Columbia University, his MS in Civil Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and his MS and BS in Coastal Engineering from the East China Technical University of Water Resources.
Richard Yang joins the firm as Managing Director and Joint Head of Asia Consumer and Healthcare Investment Banking. He brings to Jefferies over 13 years of experience. Mr. Yang joins Jefferies from ICBC International, where he was a Managing Director and Head of Consumer and Retail Investment Banking. Prior to that, he spent three years as an Investment Partner at IDG Capital, a private equity firm, where he focused on sourcing and executing private equity investments principally in the consumer, retail and healthcare sectors. Previously he spent four years in investment banking at Credit Suisse and five years at Sherman & Sterling where he practiced securities law. Mr. Yang received his JD from the University of Michigan Law School and his BS in Chemistry from Beijing University.
