SEOUL- LONDON, November 19, 2012 The - Organizing Committee of the World Energy Congress Daegu 2013 has announced that Younghoon David Kim, CEO and Chairman of Daesung Group, has been appointed as its new acting chairman.
Mr Kim, who was previously vice-chairman of the Organizing Committee, will succeed Kim Joong-kyum, who has stepped down as the Organizing Committee chairman as well as President & CEO of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).
Mr Younghoon Kim was elected earlier this month as co-chair of the World Energy Council, the sponsor of the triennial World Energy Congress, at its annual executive assembly in Monaco. He previously served as vice chairman for Asia Pacific and South Asia, World Energy Council from 2005 to 2011.
Mr Kim has an extensive background in the Korean energy sector as the head and major shareholder of the Daegu-based Daesung Group, which supplies 20 percent of the residential natural gas market in South Korea. In addition, Daesung has developed electric power and renewable energy sources including landfill gas-to-energy, a combined-cycle gas power station, and Korea's first solar power tower system.
The World Energy Congress is the premier international gathering for the global energy sector, which is expected to attract 5,000 high-level delegates when it is held in Daegu, Korea's green growth capital, from October 13 to 17, 2013 under the theme of "Securing Tomorrow's Energy Today."
