BARCELONA, Spain--(DTS, Inc. (NASDAQ: DTSI), a leader in high-definition audio technologies, and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), today announced further collaboration with the integration of DTS Headphone:X™ onto Qualcomm Technologies’ latest Snapdragon™ processors, starting with the Snapdragon 800 series. Launching in 2013, DTS Headphone:X will enable Snapdragon powered smartphones and tablets to deliver up-to 7.1 surround sound over headphones, an experience never before available to consumers. The capabilities of DTS Headphone:X will be demonstrated at Mobile World Congress 2013 by both DTS (Hall 5, Stand 5D40) and Qualcomm (Hall 3, Stand 3B64).
)--“Combining DTS Headphone:X, DTS’ most innovative technology onto Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processors will allow us to be the first to deliver a level of performance that’s unmatched by any other application processor provider in the industry,” said Raj Talluri, senior vice president of product management at Qualcomm Technologies. “Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processors set a new standard in providing advanced mobile audio solutions to handset and tablet OEMs.”
With DTS Headphone:X, DTS provides an unparalleled and immersive re-creation of the home theater surround sound experience using any brand or tier of headphones. The technology externalizes sound, so instead of the listener hearing it inside their heads, as is typical for traditional headphone listening, they perceive it as coming from high quality loudspeakers located some distance around them.
“DTS and Qualcomm Technologies have a long history of working together, being one of the first successful Snapdragon Hexagon DSP Access Program developers to deliver the highest quality HD mobile audio solutions available,” said Geir Skaaden, senior vice president of products and platforms at DTS. “Incorporating DTS Headphone:X on Snapdragon 800 processors provides a superior audio solution, which every OEM can now integrate into any smartphone or tablet.”
DTS Headphone:X will be available on Snapdragon 800 processors in the second half of 2013. This announcement represents a continued expansion of DTS’ collaboration with Qualcomm. In June 2012, DTS and Qualcomm collaborated and successfully implemented DTS’ codecs onto the Qualcomm Hexagon DSP platforms.
