DALLAS--(Xtera Communications, Inc. (“Xtera”), a leading global provider of optical networking solutions, today announced the launch of OTN switching capabilities on its advanced 100G optical networking platform, Nu-Wave OptimaTM. Xtera now offers a stand-alone or integrated switching solution capable of providing the flexibility and scale necessary to enable service providers to efficiently respond to the continued growth of the Internet, greater prevalence of video content, and more dependence on network-based storage. The benefits of Xtera’s converged Layer 0 WDM transport and Layer 1 OTN switching solution include scalable transport and switching capacity, efficient capacity utilization in backbone networks, high manageability on per service and per wavelength basis, fast service provisioning, quick failure protection, and policy-based restoration.
)--Using the latest technologies and chipsets, Xtera’s OTN switch includes an advanced architecture with a hybrid packet/circuit switch fabric. The switching capacity is 2.4 Tb/s per shelf, upgradable in a hitless way to 21.6-Tb/s capacity in a single-stage switch fabric.
Xtera’s Nu-Wave OptimaTM platform now combines high-performance line cards and common equipment for ultra-long unregenerated reach with lower cost per transported bit and OTN switching equipment for more efficient and resilient utilization of the capacity resources throughout the optical network. This combination helps service providers further reduce the total cost of ownership of their networks, and deliver and manage new services.
With the introduction of OTN switching, Xtera’s Nu-Wave OptimaTM platform provides a standardized network-to-network, service-independent interface for connecting multiple transport domains and offering restoration capabilities within a single- and multi-vendor environment.
“By introducing OTN switching to our best in class 100G and optical amplification technologies, Xtera positions itself as the supplier of choice for optical networking solutions offering capacity efficiency, resiliency and flexibility to handle any type of services for maximizing the revenues of the service providers,” said Philippe Perrier, SVP, Product Line Manager Long-Haul Optical Transport of Xtera. “With an innovative design for the core of our OTN switch allowing a maximum switching capacity in excess of several hundreds of Tb/s, Xtera confirms again its technical leadership by introducing new technologies and industry-leading capacity and flexibility.”
