BMC’s BSM for Cloud Computing™ and BSM for Virtualization™ enable customers to implement highly virtualized and cloud computing environments step-by-step and with minimal risk
SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BMC Software (NYSE: BMC) today announced enhancements to its Business Service Management (BSM) platform that help customers harness the power of virtualization and enable private cloud computing environments at their own pace.
With new capabilities that address virtual lifecycle, performance and compliance management, BMC customers can rapidly take control of their virtualized infrastructures regardless of their IT management maturity. From this foundation, organizations can move to complete private cloud management using the same BSM platform.
“Cloud computing is critical to our business strategy, allowing LG CNS to deliver customer-focused IT services more effectively and efficiently,” said Kwang Soo Song, cloud computing team leader at LG CNS. “BMC’s BSM platform allows us to provision our cloud services cost-effectively with the confidence that we’re delivering the best customer experience possible.”
BMC recognizes that customers want to embrace cloud computing in an evolutionary fashion – using consistent processes, people and policies across all IT environments.
According to Gartner: “Gartner believes that enterprises that transform themselves into true service providers from an organization, process and tool point of view will be very successful in exploiting cloud computing in their environment as part of their overall IT service management strategy. Likewise, enterprises that do not systematically operate within a service management context and yet move their mission-critical applications to the cloud will likely see diminished benefits and potential exposures.”1
BMC’s latest enhancements help organizations evolve typical IT infrastructures to virtualized datacenters, then private cloud environments and ultimately hybrid clouds which combine private clouds and public cloud services such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). BMC manages all of these environments using a consistent set of management tools and a common BSM platform. This is a stark contrast to virtual-only niche solutions offered by many vendors that fragment IT environments, break IT processes, and increase cost.
New features with BSM for Cloud Computing™ and BSM for Virtualization™ include:
- Private Cloud Management applies the same level of service management capabilities, automation and control for private cloud as for traditional physical and virtual IT infrastructures and applications. This enables customers to quickly establish private clouds or integrate with public cloud services with confidence, based on business demand and IT requirements.
- Virtual Lifecycle Management eliminates virtual sprawl by managing and automating all lifecycle activities for a virtual machine (VM) and provides complete visibility into virtualized environments. This enables IT organizations to easily ensure that all VMs are accounted for and managed properly.
- Virtual Performance Management manages capacity, predicts performance and automatically reacts to the changes that frequently occur in virtual and cloud environments. The solution maintains performance monitoring continuity despite VM infrastructure changes, ensuring smooth IT operations across virtual and cloud environments.
- Virtual Compliance Management helps minimize risk and detect policy violations, reducing IT costs and improving operational efficiency. The solution uses a common set of policies, reporting and remediation to consistently enforce operational, regulatory and security compliance across physical, virtual and cloud environments.
“The ability to automate and manage virtual IT environments is critical to our service delivery model and results in hard dollar cost savings for our business,” said Jake Case, automation services program manager with EMBARQ, a high-speed Internet provider. “BMC’s Business Service Management (BSM) platform enables us to provision services quickly and consistently across physical and virtual environments, helping us meet compliance regulations like Sarbanes Oxley, and gain a competitive edge.”
“BMC’s BSM platform plays an important role in our recently announced Unisys Secure Cloud Solution,” said Sam Gross, vice president, Global IT Outsourcing Solutions, Unisys. “BMC’s automated provisioning, configuration and compliance solutions will enable effective management and control of the Secure Cloud Solution environments. Our clients’ IT service management tools will interface with the BSM platform to provide integrated client control of the Unisys Secure Cloud Solution infrastructure from request to retirement.”
