PETALUMA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Teknovus, the leading provider of Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) chipsets for deployment of triple-play residential and business services in broadband access networks, today announced support for full coexistence of 10G/10G, 10G/1G and 1G/1G ONUs (Optical Network Units) operating simultaneously on the same PON (Passive Optical Network). Teknovus is the first vendor to demonstrate this capability, which may be viewed during CIOE (China International Optoelectronic Exposition) in Shenzhen, September 6th to 9th at Vitesse’s booth (number 4352). In addition, Mark Jiang, Teknovus’ Greater China Country Manager, will be delivering the 10G EPON keynote on Wednesday, September 9th to the FTTH China Lightwave Conference, also at the Shenzhen Convention Center. In 2007, Teknovus was the first to provide higher-speed, 2.5G EPON chipsets and is again leading in the development of 10G/10G solutions with triple speed coexistence.
Teknovus’ coexistence of different downstream and upstream speeds on the same PON enables service providers to offer different service bundles, matching the varying application requirements of subscribers, through a single fiber network. Coexistence also offers an extremely cost-effective and effortless migration path to 10Gbps, by reusing the existing 1G-EPON fiber infrastructure. Teknovus’ OLTs (Optical Line Terminals) support any mix of ONUs varying in downstream and upstream speeds from 1G to 10G. Teknovus’ 1G-EPON and 10G-EPON are fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3ah and IEEE 802.3av specifications.
“Teknovus is the leading EPON chip provider for high density FTTx solutions for all major Chinese system vendors,” stated Mark Jiang, Teknovus’ Greater China Country Manager. “Our customers are supporting major deployments at China Telecom and China Unicom and are exporting their solutions into Eastern Europe, the United States, and South America. In addition, we have secured all major Chinese system OEMs as customers for our 10G-EPON platforms.”
“We are delighted to demonstrate EPON coexistence at 10G/10G, 10G/1G and 1G/1G during CIOE and to present our solution at the China Lightwave Conference,” stated Dr. Robin Grindley, Director of 10G Product Strategy for Teknovus. “Teknovus is the first EPON chip vendor to achieve dual-rate upstream, representing a major technical accomplishment. With triple coexistence, service providers can meet the different requirements of their subscribers on a single PON, fine tuning applications to meet the needs of end-users from home subscribers to business users.”
