Experts from The British Standards Institution (BSI), Gartner Inc., Liberty Mutual and More to Highlight Critical Issues Week of March 23rd

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Business Continuity Institute (BCI), a leader in setting and validating standards of professional competence and ethics in business continuity management, today announced plans for the inaugural Global Business Continuity Awareness Week, March 23 through March 27, 2009.

With an eye toward raising overall awareness of business continuity, disaster recovery and resiliency around the world, the BCI has partnered with other globally-recognized business continuity management leaders such as The British Standards Institution (BSI) and Gartner Inc., the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, to produce and host a series of free Webinars and virtual meetings which will include surveys, white papers, case studies and business impact analysis processes. All activities and collateral resources and tools will be easily accessible via a standard Internet connection.

Business continuity professionals around the world are invited to participate in the week by visiting the Global Business Continuity Awareness Week Web site at www.BusinessContinuityAwarenessWeek.org to see the Webinar schedule and to register. They can view suggested activities and useful statistics as well as download the pocket-sized “Good Practice Guidelines” for distribution to colleagues and clients.

“The goal of Global Business Continuity Awareness Week is to raise understanding of business continuity management with opinion leaders in government and industry,” said Lyndon Bird, International Technical Director for The BCI. “In these uncertain times, we need to raise the profile of the discipline and encourage corporate excellence in business continuity.”

“As a global business community, we are faced with an unprecedented level of risk - the Global Business Continuity Awareness Week will play a vital role in reinforcing this message by getting people to think about the aftermath of the recent economic, cyber and natural disasters,” Bird added. “We must provide the information in a way that will resonate with the business continuity management professional at the human level.”

Monday, March 23, will kick-off a week of business continuity data sharing from experts with organizations such as Norwich University, eFortresses, Disaster Recovery Journal, Euroclear and Liberty Mutual. These organizations represent just a few of the participants that have been brought together to produce and disseminate their knowledge on critical issues – accessible by all, and needing only an Internet connection.

Passionate about their involvement in this initiative, Shereen Abuzobaa, vice president of marketing for BSi Management Systems, said, “The expert presentations and white papers will go a long way in bringing to the forefront the escalating significance of business continuity management as a critical management tool for corporations and government groups of all sizes and sectors.”
