Brings Over 30 Years Experience in Corporate & Development Work With Emphasis on Asian Market
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Proskauer Rose LLP, a global law firm with more than 750 lawyers worldwide, announced that Jim Chapman, a leading corporate and commercial lawyer with over 30 years experience in mergers and acquisitions, gaming, hotels and resorts, real estate investment, joint ventures and foreign direct investment in Asia, has joined the firm as a partner. Mr. Chapman will be based at the firm’s Hong Kong office.
Mr. Chapman was formerly general counsel of Galaxy Entertainment Group, one of Asia’s leading gaming and entertainment companies. Throughout his career, he has been involved in some of the most high-profile gaming, hotel and resort developments in the region, including Galaxy Macau, a 44 hectare (106 acre) mixed-use site currently underway in Cotai, Macau as well as projects in Hong Kong, Vietnam and Myanmar. He is qualified to practice law in Hong Kong, Scotland, England and Bermuda.
Yuval Tal, resident partner of Proskauer’s Hong Kong office, said that the addition of Mr. Chapman aligns perfectly with the firm’s strategy for building its presence in the region.

Proskauer’s Hong Kong office, which opened in September 2008, includes Mr. Tal, a corporate partner who is also a member of the firm’s internationally recognized Lodging and Gaming Practice Group, partner Ying Li, one of Asia’s preeminent corporate lawyers, and partner Joseph Cha. The group is leading the firm’s Asian expansion through its corporate and transactional practices, with a particular focus on its expertise in sectors that include lodging and gaming, sports and private investment funds.
Proskauer Rose intends to open an office in Beijing once approval is received from the People’s Republic of China.
Prior to joining Galaxy, Mr. Chapman was a partner at Johnson Stokes & Master (now part of Mayer Brown JSM) in Hong Kong, where he also headed the firm’s commercial department and was part of its four-member executive committee. He was educated at the High School of Glasgow and earned his law degree from Aberdeen University.
