Bringing over 30 Years of Industry Experience, Jim Kupec to Lead Sales and Marketing for New Foundry Industry Powerhouse
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GLOBALFOUNDRIES, a leading-edge semiconductor foundry company recently formed by a joint venture between AMD (NYSE: AMD) and Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC), today announced Jim Kupec as its new senior vice president of sales and marketing.
In this position, Jim will assume a key leadership position for GLOBALFOUNDRIES as it completes its transformation into an independent, customer-focused, foundry company. Jim will drive the company’s customer acquisition strategy, through which GLOBALFOUNDRIES is engaging with a broader set of top-tier chip-makers around the world while continuing to develop advanced technologies with AMD.
Jim brings an impressive legacy of foundry sales and marketing experience to GLOBALFOUNDRIES as the former President of United Microelectronics Company (UMC) USA. While at UMC, Jim ramped sales and formed strategic customer partnerships. Most recently, Jim served as Chief Operating Officer of eSilicon, a leader in ASIC design and manufacturing services.
“The addition of Jim’s extensive foundry experience, on both the supplier and customer side of the business, underscores our commitment to building a world-class global foundry services provider,” said Doug Grose, CEO of GLOBALFOUNDRIES. “We recognize that in the foundry business the customer experience is the key to success. We want to become a seamless extension of our customers’ environments, providing secure capacity, advanced technology and world-class support through global operations that they come to view as their own.”
Earlier in his career, Jim spent 15 years with Cypress Semiconductor, rising through a variety of engineering, operations and management positions to the role of senior vice president. Jim holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and a Master’s of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University.
“GLOBALFOUNDRIES is entering the foundry market at the right time and with the right business model to change the landscape of the industry,” said Kupec. “More importantly, we’re entering the industry with the right mindset and resources. Our investments in leading edge technology and in supporting infrastructure will ensure the success of our customers.”
