Toshiba Biblio User Experience is Enhanced by the Design Integration of the MorphpadTM Display
ANAHEIM, Calif. & CAMBRIDGE, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Multi-Fineline Electronix, Inc. (Nasdaq:MFLX), a leading global provider of high-quality, technologically advanced flexible printed circuit and value-added component assembly solutions to the electronics industry, today announced that its MorphpadTM technology has been integrated into the Toshiba Biblio ebook reader mobile phone. This consumer device features a touch screen with a slide-out keyboard using the MorphpadTM display as a numeric keypad in the portrait orientation that automatically morphs into a full QWERTY keypad in landscape mode.
With an integrated lighting system, the MorphpadTM display consumes low power, is visible in all lighting conditions and from wide viewing angles. The MorphpadTM display is a turnkey module, which provides full tactile feedback complementing LCD touchscreens. MorphpadTM displays can use various colors, set on a black background, providing high contrast and visual impact using SmartInkTM technology. When power is off, the morphing keypad display provides a clean, black surface, appealing to both consumers and product designers.
“Toshiba’s adoption of our MorphpadTM display is a testament to MFLEX’s innovation in consumer technology devices,” said Reza Meshgin, chief executive officer at MFLEX. “It’s an honour to partner with such a prestigious brand that shares our goals of enhancing the consumer experience.”
In December 2008, MFLEX acquired Pelikon, a privately-held technology company focused on the development of MorphpadTM displays, SmartInkTM technology and drive electronics. The SmartInkTM technology enables “morphing” or reconfigurable keypads and animation effects on virtually any consumer product.
“With so many functions accessed on consumer electronic devices today, it’s more important than ever to enhance the user experience,” said Matt Wolk, vice president of corporate development and chief strategy officer at MFLEX. “We’ve developed a technology that enhances the user interface and operation of smartphones and other electronic devices. By morphing the Biblio keypad for multiple applications the user now has maximum flexibility and ease of use.”
