CEATEC JAPAN 2009

CHIBA, Japan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Innovation Awards, where a panel of judges of U.S. journalists selects and awards the significant technologies and concepts based on innovation and potential influence in the U.S. market, commenced at CEATEC JAPAN 2009 in Makuhari Messe (Chiba) and the awards ceremony was held on October 7th.

The judging criteria were technologies, products or services that are on exhibit at CEATEC JAPAN 2009 and other entries made by the exhibitors. The panel of judges reviewed and recognized significant technologies based on innovation and potential influence in the U.S. market as well as benefit to the consumers.

On October 6th and 7th, the panel of judges walked through the floors of CEATEC JAPAN 2009 to evaluate products, technologies and services. Finalists were then selected, and from these finalists the Green IT Special Award and Grand Prix were decided.

The awards and reviews were announced by one of the judges, Michael Kanellos of Greentech Media.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Mr. Kanellos said, "This year's awarded products significantly showed Japan's strengths in engineering implementation, industrial design, and energy efficiency, which made selection very difficult."

The Grand Prix award went to Mirumo, a dual-screen mobile phone by Sharp, and Mr. Kanellos stated the reason for the selection was not only because the product realized an integration of telephone and IC chip but also generated a new level of technology.
