Zhou have joined MWE China as partners. Additionally, six MWE China lawyers have been promoted to partner, including Jacqueline Z. Cai, David J.D. Dai, Ken J. Huang, Leon C.G. Liu, Jack J. Ma and Molly J.J. Qin.
Jacqueline Z. Cai focuses her practice on venture financing, private equity, M&A, overseas investment, antitrust and competition, finance and banking, derivatives, regulatory compliance, corporate governance and foreign direct investment. Ms. Cai has extensive experience in the area of venture financing. She has assisted Chinese and foreign venture capital institutions in designing investment structures, establishing vehicles (incubators), finding investment targets, and in resolving and settling risks in their investments. She has also represented many target companies in obtaining investments from foreign venture capital institutions. In addition, Ms. Cai has provided legal services to reputable multinational companies and Chinese and foreign-invested banks regarding syndicated loans, corporate financing, financial products design, foreign exchange and foreign debts as well as services regarding regulatory compliance for foreign-invested banks. Ms. Cai earned her LL.M. from the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and her LL.B. from Fudan University.
Henry L.T. Chen is a licensed Chinese attorney and is also admitted in the State of New York. In addition to his international experience at several global law firms, Mr. Chen has practised for more than 10 years with domestic law firms. Mr. Chen has deep experience in dealing with both Chinese and international legal issues and has handled many significant cases and projects for both international and domestic clients in areas such as international arbitration, domestic litigation, compliance with the Chinese Anti-Monopoly Law, anti-trust filings, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) investigations and auditing, risk management under anti-commercial bribery laws and other corporate services. Mr. Chen speaks and publishes frequently on legal issues concerning Chinese law, Chinese regulatory governmental affairs and international and domestic dispute resolution regimes. His book titled Risk Management on Commercial Bribery in China is set to be published in the near future. Mr. Chen earned his LL.M. from New York University School of Law and the East China University for Political Science and Law, and his LL.B. from Suzhou University School of Law.
David J.D. Dai represents various European and U.S. clients in their direct investments in China, including the establishment of foreign-invested enterprises in China, venture capital investment, leveraged buyouts, strategic alliances and other M&A activities. Prior to joining MWE China, Mr. Dai was head of the international practice at a reputable Chinese law firm in Southern China. He also has a special interest in international commercial arbitration and has represented various clients in arbitrations at the International Chamber of Commerce International Arbitration Court, Singapore International Arbitration Center, Hong Kong International Arbitration Center, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission and other local Chinese arbitration commissions. Mr. Dai earned his LL.M. and B.A. from Xiamen University and was the winner of the Lord Chancellor Scholarship for Young Chinese Lawyers for further study at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
Ken J. Huang focuses his practice on trial and dispute resolution, including alternative dispute resolution, international dispute resolution, intellectual property and commercial litigation and arbitration. He also counsels multinational and local Chinese companies on settlement negotiations and avoidance of potential claims. Mr. Huang has successfully secured several landmark legal verdicts in China and is often sought by major foreign companies to defend their rights in China. He earned his LL.B. from Nanjing University.
Leon C.G. Liu focuses his practice on dispute resolution and regulatory compliance. Prior to joining MWE China Law Offices and achieving his second law degree in the United Kingdom, Mr. Liu was a prosecutor in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. He has extensive experience working closely with foreign investment companies, multinational companies and overseas lawyers in litigation and international arbitration, particularly related to intellectual property rights. He advises clients on complex corporate governance and compliance issues, internal and external crisis management, regulatory government affairs, white-collar criminal defense, FCPA issues, and antitrust compliance. Mr. Liu earned his LL.M. from Nottingham University (UK) and his LL.B. from Dalian Maritime University.
Jack J. Ma focuses his practice on corporate and commercial law, foreign direct investment, M&A and offshore reverse takeover. He also has experience in antitrust compliance and international arbitration. Mr. Ma represents multinational companies in various transactions, including wholly owned company setups, joint venture transactions, strategic alliances and licensing transactions. His transactional practice is focused on the representation of both multinational and Chinese buyers and sellers, as well as financial advisors, in M&A and cross-border transactions. He earned his B.E. from Shanghai Jiaotong University and his LL.B. from Fudan University.
Molly J.J. Qin focuses her practice on corporate and regulatory compliance. She has experience working closely with Chinese companies, international companies and overseas lawyers in advising on M&A, venture capital investment, regulatory compliance, labor and employment, and foreign direct investment in China. Ms. Qin works closely with members of management, boards of directors and overseas headquarters in various industries, including high technology, manufacturing, telecomm and healthcare. She has represented companies in negotiation of contract terms, production of relevant contracts and agreements, coordination with relevant governmental authorities and corporate structure design. She earned her B.A. from the East China University of Political Science and Law and her LL.M. from L’Universite d’Economie, des Sciences et de Droit d’Aix-Marseille (France).
Helen H.X. Zhang focuses on insolvency, intellectual property, M&A, real estate and renewable energy. She has practiced law for more than 13 years with leading international and China-based law firms. Ms. Zhang has extensive experience in advising multinationals on transactions involving complex Chinese laws and practices in various sectors including manufacturing, infrastructure, real estate, high technology and energy. Ms. Zhang earned her B.S. from Tongji University, her LL.B. from Fudan University Law School, and her LL.M. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Fudan University Law School. Ms. Zhang is the member of the New York Bar Association, Inter-Pacific Bar Association and All China Lawyers Association. Ms. Zhang was the first Mainland Chinese woman lawyer to be elected as Vice-Chair of the Women Business Lawyers Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association.
Joseph Z.Y. Zhou focuses his practice on patent prosecution and litigation. He has represented clients in the areas of semiconductors, wireless communications, software; imaging, medical devices, and several other fields. He has drafted and prosecuted over one hundred patent applications. Before joining MWE China Law, Dr. Zhou practiced law for several years with leading international firms. Dr. Zhou’s academic and engineering experiences include serving as a faculty member at Indiana State University and working as a principal staff Engineer and patent agent at a leading US technology firm. Dr. Zhou received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from Purdue University. He received his J.D. from Arizona State University, where he was named as Willard H. Pedrick Scholar for Academic Excellence. Dr. Zhou is a member of the California Bar and is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
