Hong Kong--(Business Wire)--Organized by Mr. Mitsuo Nitta from Yushodo in Tokyo, Mr. Paul Feain from Cornstalk Bookshop in Sydney and Mr. Chris Li from Hong Kong Book Centre in Hong Kong, the Third International Antiquarian Bookfair will be held at the Hong Kong Exhibition Centre from December 4-6, 2009.

With its phenomenal success for the past two years, the Third International Antiquarian Bookfair provides an excellent opportunity for book lovers and collectors to purchase, examine and educate themselves about the Eastern and Western antiquarian books.  This year, there will be over 30 top antiquarian book dealers around the world (Australia, China, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and the United States) attending the exhibition.

The International Antiquarian Bookfair brings visitors one of the world's finest collection of antiquarian and rare books, maps, atlases, prints, photos, posters, autographs, manuscripts, memorabilia and related items pricing from a few hundred to over half a million Hong Kong dollars.

Highlights from the Bookfair:

1.          Astronomical Map by Ambrosius Schevenhuysen, 1600 (Photo 01: Price HKD 450,000)

An astronomical map of the universe published in the year 1600.  This is a large colored map of the universe as seen by Ambrosius Schevenhuysen.  The map was hand-colored when it was issued.  It is a fascinating document which presents the seventeenth century view of man's interpretation of his place in the universe.

2.          Winnie the Pooh Books by A. A. Milne and illustrated by E. H. Shepard, first edition (Photo 02: Price HKD166,722)

A complete set of Winnie the Pooh books: When We Were Very Young, Winnie-the-Pooh, Now We Are Six and The House at Pooh Corner.  The copy of The House at Pooh Corner is signed by both the author and the illustrator on the title page.

3.          Dictionary of the Chinese Language by Robert Morrison, 1815-1823 (Photo 03: Price TBC)

This is a monumental first dictionary of Chinese to English published in six parts between 1815 and 1823 in Macau.

4.          Handwriting of Karl Marx (Photo 04: Price TBC )

Autograph manuscript leaf of notes, the inside of the rear cover (verso marbled, without text) from the second of 24 notebooks filled by Marx during his time in London while researching texts in the British Museum prior to his writing Das Kapital.  No place, but London, mid September to mid October 1850.

5.          Alice in Wonderland by Marie Laurencin, Paris: Black Sun Press, 1930 (Price: HKD350,000)

Complete set of six colored pastel drawings of this unusual Art Deco vision of Alice, being the actual finished originals made by Marie Laurencin inside a set of black and white outline designs printed as proofs on wove paper.  Each picture is signed by the artist in colored pencil.

6.          China. Ergebnisse eigener Reisen by Richthofen Ferdinand Von, Berlin: Reimer, 1877, 1882, 1912, 1883, 1911, first edition (Photo 05: Price HKD550,000)

These books resulted from Richthofen's famous exploring journeys throughout China in 1868-72.  This set is especially important for containing the large folio atlases of 1885 and 1912.  Sets with both atlases are rarely encountered.  The first atlas (Northern China) contains 26 maps, the second (Southern China) contains 28 maps, one geological, the other orographical (having to do with the physical geography of mountains).  The first scientific maps of China and the first comprehensive geological maps of China, these represent "the climax of European cartography on China".

7.          Loto des 5 Parties du Monde: Races Humaines, Productions, Vegetales et Animales. by E. Serre, Paris: Saussine Editeurs, (c. 1905) (Photo 06: Price HKD 17,611)

A set of twelve numbered playing boards, each with onlaid chromolithographed sheet maps featuring national flags, costumes and wildlife. Each board has eight numbered tiles inset, which when removed reveal an image of local inhabitants, features or natural history.  The New York scene features the famous Flatiron Building, one of the world's first skyscrapers.
