JAKARTA, Indonesia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions to a wide range of industries worldwide is proud to announce its approval as the first third-party laboratory in Indonesia accredited to provide both lead and small parts testing under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). Testing procedures will primarily cater to consumer products designed and manufactured for young children.

Intertek’s Indonesian lab is one of its 24 CPSIA-accredited facilities around the world. The CPSIA, also known as HR 4040, was passed in August 2008 for enhanced regulation of consumer safety throughout the supply chain. New certification requirements include changes to phthalate and lead limits, mandatory third-party testing requirements, and many other added provisions that provoked questions for manufacturers, importers, private labelers, distributors and retailers since its enforcement. Violation of the act could mean increased fines, denied imports and other penalties under the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s amplified authority.

Businesses that export their products to the U.S. have thus needed to take extra precaution to ensure compliance with new provisions.
