DUBAI, United Arab Emirates--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dubai Design District (d3) today welcomed and commended CHANEL’s decision to present its 2014-15 Cruise collection in the Emirate of Dubai – a first for the Middle East – on 13th of May 2014.
Dr Amina Al Rustamani, Group CEO of TECOM Investments, the developer behind Dubai Design District, said: “We thank Mr Lagerfeld and CHANEL for their visionary support to Dubai’s growing fashion and design industry. We are tremendously excited by the opportunities for the local and regional fashion scene that accompany such a landmark event.
“The opportunity for Dubai to serve as backdrop to CHANEL’s upcoming collection required the dedicated support of numerous entities, including Dubai Police, Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing Department, The Dubai Road and Transport Authority, Dubai Municipality, Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs and Dubai Customs, to whom we are grateful. Dubai will stand alongside CHANEL’s other great collection destinations, such as Paris, Venice, Saint-Tropez, Cap d’Antibes and Singapore,” Dr Al Rustamani, said.
Bruno Pavlovsky, President of CHANEL Fashion, stated: "CHANEL is very pleased to present its 2014-15 Cruise collection in Dubai. In addition to being a key hub for our Fashion business in the Middle East, Dubai was chosen because it inspires travel and evokes the true spirit of Cruise. The show that we will hold in this city on May 13th, in the presence of Karl Lagerfeld, will be a unique event that will feed the public's imagination around our brand."
CHANEL’s decision reflects the growing momentum of Dubai’s design and fashion scene, and follows the June 2013 launch of Dubai Design District – a dedicated creative hub at the heart of the region’s design community – and the August 2013 establishment of the Design and Fashion Council by the decree of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister.
The Design and Fashion Council is mandated, among other things, to oversee the delivery of a comprehensive strategy that will guide the growth and development of the Emirate’s fashion industry, as well as plan and execute events related to the design and fashion sector.
