CES Asia Announces Suning’s Sun Weimin as Keynote Speaker at Inaugural CES Asia

Vice Chairman to highlight Smart Homes, retailer O2O transformation; Also announced, CEA’s Gary Shapiro to deliver welcome address before Intel’s opening keynote

ARLINGTON, Va.--()--CES® AsiaTM today announced that Sun Weimin, vice chairman of Suning Commerce Group Co. Ltd., will round out the list of keynote addresses at the inaugural CES Asia. Suning’s keynote will focus on the transformation of traditional retail enterprises toward Internet retail. Sun joins leaders from Audi, Intel, IBM and Twitter as confirmed speakers at the 2015 CES Asia, produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® and co-produced by INTEX. Featuring top technology companies from around the world, CES Asia will run May 25-27 in Shanghai, China, drawing global businesses to showcase the latest products and technologies entering the Asian marketplace.

Sun’s keynote address will take place from 1-1:50 PM Tuesday, May 26 in the Kerry Hotel, Level 3, Grand Shanghai Ballroom 2-3. He will discuss how Suning has managed to grow offline and online despite the dominance of e-only commerce, the emergence of Smart Home technology, and how Suning is succeeding in its transformation towards online-to-offline (O2O).

“Suning is one of China’s top consumer electronics retailers and its participation confirms that CES Asia is the perfect home for both brick and mortar and online retailers,” said Karen Chupka, senior vice president, International CES and corporate business strategy, CEA. “We are honored to have Mr. Sun join us to discuss how the largest commercial retailer enterprise in China is embracing the innovation of Smart Homes.”

Suning joins an estimated 200 exhibitors that currently represent 15 countries on the CES Asia show floor, which was recently expanded by nearly 10 percent. JD.com, China’s largest e-tailer, also will participate in CES Asia as an exhibitor and Industry Partner. In addition to these top retailers, CES Asia is drawing VIP buyers who will see first-hand innovation designed specifically for the Asian market. Buyers from HSN, Best Buy Asia, Newegg, Amazon, RadioShack, Ingram Micro and Costco Taiwan all will be participating in CEA’s VIP Buyer program.

Before becoming the vice chairman of Suning Commerce Group Co. Ltd., Sun held roles at Suning, including vice president of Suning Electric Appliances Co. Ltd., and president of Suning Appliances Co., Ltd. Established in 1990, Suning Commerce Group Co. Ltd. has grown to become the largest commercial retail enterprise in China. It has topped the list of top 500 China Private Enterprises for the past two years. Currently, there are more than 1,600 Suning stores in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Japan, with more than 180,000 employees.

Also announced today, Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA will deliver a welcome address and introduce opening keynote speaker Kirk Skaugen from Intel on Monday morning. During his career at CEA, Shapiro has helped direct policymakers and business leaders on the importance of innovation by testifying about technology before Congress more than 20 times, and through his two New York Times bestsellers and numerous articles in publications including The Street JournalThe New YorkTimes and The Washington Post. Shapiro will deliver his address at 10:30 AM, May 25, at the Kerry Hotel, Level 3, Grand Shanghai Ballroom 2-3. Skaugen, senior vice president and general manager of the client computing group for Intel Corporation, will take the keynote stage at 10:40 AM following Shapiro’s address.

Other confirmed keynote speakers include Audi’s Rupert Stadler and IBM’s D.C. Chien. Stadler, chairman of the board of management at AUDI AG, will deliver the preshow keynote address at 5 PM Sunday, May 24, in the Jumeirah Hotel, DaGuan Theatre. Chien, CEO of IBM Greater China Group, will deliver his keynote at 3:30 PM Monday, May 25, at the Kerry Hotel, Level 3, Grand Shanghai Ballroom 2-3. Keynote addresses are complimentary for all CES Asia attendees, and a CES Asia badge is all that is required for entry.
