SHANGHAI--()--The NFC Forum announced that it will hold a "Tap Into NFC Showcase" in Shanghai, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on June 2 at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai. This public event seeks to educate attendees on the possibilities of NFC technology, create a place for NFC business people to share ideas, and provide an opportunity for networking. There is no charge to attend, but advance registration is required. Showcase information is also available in Chinese.

The "Tap Into NFC Showcase" agenda includes:

  • "NFC Everywhere" Keynote from NXP Semiconductors – Creating new user experiences and enabling the Internet of Things, plus a glimpse at an NXP-powered Shanghai "Smart City" implementation
  • Lightning Talks (five minute presentations)
    • "Accelerating the Time to Market of Your NFC product," from Keysight
    • "Speeding Up NFC adoption with an Open Platform," from MediaTek
    • "Passively Operated NFC Solutions," from Silicon Craft Technology
  • Cocktail/Networking hour, with company exhibit tables

The Chinese market for NFC-enabled products and services is widely seen as poised for significant growth in the near future as NFC use in mobile payments and other applications rises sharply. According to a recent survey by RFI Group, 65% of contactless users in China are open to trying new payment methods.

"This is an exciting time for NFC in China. We encourage entrepreneurs and innovators in the NFC ecosystem — and all interested companies in the Shanghai area — to join us at 'Tap Into NFC,' "said Paula Hunter, NFC Forum Executive Director. "The NFC Forum already counts several of the top companies in China among our members, and as we roll out plans to expand our activities in this important market in the coming weeks, we invite all interested Chinese companies to join us in shaping the future of NFC."

Taking advantage of this strong interest in NFC technology, the NFC Forum is also holding two other events in Shanghai: aPlugfest, May 25-29, and a Members Meeting, June 1-5.

NFC Forum Plugfest events are held several times a year in various locations around the world. Plugfests promote the interoperability of NFC Forum device implementations by providing participants an opportunity to verify interaction of their own devices with other NFC Forum member implementations and tools. All testing is confidential.

The NFC Forum holds three members-only meetings each year: in Asia, Europe, and North America. Forum members at all levels are encouraged to attend as many meetings as possible. Each active Task Force, Working Group, and Committee has a working session at every meeting, where substantial progress is made toward completing outstanding work items and determining the overall direction of NFC technology. Member meetings also provide valuable networking opportunities for participants from around the world.

All companies with interest in the NFC Forum ecosystem are encouraged to become members. A range of levels is available.

"Tap Into NFC" is supported by Platinum sponsor TA Technology and Gold sponsor NXP Semiconductors. TA Technology is also sponsor of the Plugfest in Shanghai.
