SINGAPORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Herbalife, a global nutrition company, has concluded its annual Asia Pacific training event – Extravaganza 2016 – held in Singapore from May 13-15. This year’s event saw Herbalife rally 10,000 of its independent member network in Southeast Asia to build upon the company’s wide-ranging efforts to inspire positive nutritional habits, healthy active lifestyles, and to help combat rising obesity rates.
To further widen training support to members within the region, Herbalife also expanded the scale of the Asia Pacific Extravaganza, with two additional events held in Bangalore, India from May 13-15 and in Seoul, Korea from June 17-19.
According to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), worldwide obesity rates have doubled since 1980. In Southeast Asia, women had approximately double the obesity prevalence of men. With obesity becoming an increasingly pressing health issue that puts people at risk of adverse health effects, Herbalife’s Asia Pacific independent members at the Extravaganza learned about the different approaches that they can take to inspire positive lifestyle habits amongst their network of communities and to raise awareness of the importance of balanced nutrition and physical activity. In addition, they also found out how Herbalife’s systemized training support system can help them to provide customers with personalized nutrition plans through one-on-one coaching.
“For more than 36 years, Herbalife’s mission has been to change people’s lives by providing the best nutrition and weight-management products in the world. Enhancing the knowledge and skillsets of our members is a top priority as we strive to empower them with the right tools and information to inspire a healthy active lifestyle across the region. In addition, we hope to go one step further and partner with relevant government agencies on public education programs to help address the growing obesity problem in Southeast Asia,” said Stephen Conchie, Herbalife Vice President and General Manager, Southeast Asia.
“In the past few years, we have intensified our efforts to raise awareness of the issues related to rising obesity rates in the world’s most populated continent, including the commissioning of several multi-market surveys to better understand the public’s perceptions and attitudes towards nutrition and healthy, active living. These findings were shared during the many initiatives we implemented across the region to help consumers understand the importance of leading healthy active lifestyles, including the bi-annual Herbalife Wellness Tours, and the annual Herbalife Nutrition Day. We also provided sponsorship and nutritional support for Asia Pacific’s sports teams, athletes and events. All of these programs signal our commitment to support the growing desire for healthy, active living in the region.” added Conchie.
The 2016 Asia Pacific Extravaganza in Singapore featured an inspiring keynote address by Michael O. Johnson, Chairman and CEO of Herbalife, who discussed Herbalife’s momentum story and the importance of Asia Pacific in growing and cementing the company’s stature as a global nutrition company. Des Walsh, President of Herbalife, also painted a vision for Herbalife members to develop their businesses, whilst charting a path for people in the region to lead healthier lives through better nutritional habits.
Other key highlights of the event include the nutrition training session helmed by Dr Luigi Gratton, Vice President for Worldwide Nutrition Education and Development at Herbalife, which provided practical nutritional advice for Herbalife independent members to improve their overall health, and take steps towards inspiring healthy active living in the region.
