LONDON--()--To meet Hong Kong’s ever-growing need and demand for NEC3 contract expertise following the Government’s adoption of the contract suite for all public tenders in 2015 and 2016, NEC has now launched the region’s first expert accreditation programme for practitioners.

Delivered in partnership with the Construction Industry Council (CIC), the two new programmes are designed to embed high level skill sets across Hong Kong teams and organisations so that practitioners can execute their roles as NEC project leaders knowledgeably, confidently and to an internationally recognised standard.

With NEC contracts already making a large impact on the construction landscape in Hong Kong, the launch of the unique NEC3 ECC Supervisor Accreditation Hong Kong and the NEC3 TSC Service Manager Accreditation Hong Kong programmes is expected to drive even further expansion.

The accreditations are the first in the region to offer formal recognition of individual NEC project leaders, directors and specialists and have been established in response to the ever-increasing uptake of NEC by the private sector in the region.

Elizabeth Brookfield, Product Development Manager for NEC, said: “With interest and uptake of NEC products and services rapidly increasing since 2012, and the launch of our partnership with the Hong Kong Government last year, we’re thrilled to announce this new accreditation suite.

“Since its launch, NEC contracts have been used globally to successfully deliver some of today’s largest infrastructures and frameworks and we hope that, as acceptance and usage of NEC in Hong Kong continues to grow, this new programme of accreditation will help further stimulate contractual excellence and expertise.

“The success of the Government’s adoption of NEC reflects the suite’s material difference from the forms of contract that have been traditionally used in the past across Hong Kong. NEC is now importantly steering dispute resolution towards efficient fast-track adjudication in the first instance, making full-blown arbitration a thing of the past.”

The NEC3 ECC Supervisor Accreditation Hong Kong is ideal for construction inspectors, clerks of works and architectural technicians. Supervisors for the ECC must be able to work independently of their Project Manager, to efficiently carry out monitoring, testing and defects and checking compliance with the Works Information. This programme equips them with the knowledge and skills to do that, to an NEC-accredited standard.

The NEC3 TSC Service Manager Accreditation Hong Kong is ideal for those working in management roles across facilities, assets and maintenance.

It is designed to deliver a strong and comprehensive understanding of the clauses and duties involved in TSC, and the advanced level skills to be able to effectively manage the service delivery phase of a project under this contract.

An accredited TSC Service Manager is formally recognised to meet the requirements of the NEC and CIC frameworks set for the role.

Ir Lee Shing-see, former Construction Industry Council chairman until 31st January, commented: “I am pleased that the recent developments in the NEC/CIC partnership have led to the release of two new accreditation programmes in Hong Kong. These follow the success of the popular ECC Project Manager Accreditation, released last year.

“NEC Contracts facilitate collaboration and partnering across projects, offering employers in Hong Kong a more effective approach to procurement. The CIC supports all forms of collaborative contracts, this is why we fully endorse the NEC philosophy and principles, and NEC3 has become the contract of choice for all government tenders wherever possible in 2016. I am very positive about the future for NEC in Hong Kong.”
