Hong Kong (10th February, 2017) – Imagination and love is manifested at full swing at The AIA Great European Carnival this year: the Carnival has partnered with FilmAid Asia in initiating an ‘Art-is-on Cow Project’ where ten local artists have been invited to go creative by using different medium on plain cow installations that will be auctioned off at FilmAid Asia’s yearly gala charity raising fund for the organisation’s local Hong Kong programmes in schools and community centers, and for its work in the refugee camps in Thailand. The gala will be held at the Carnival on the February 11th.
Fast becoming one of Hong Kong’s most celebrated yearly outdoor events, The AIA Great European Carnival strives to make the event a truly Hong Kong’s community occasion. With the vision to bring the very first experience to Hong Kong every year, the Carnival sees the collaboration with FilmAid’s fund-raising initiatives an exceptional occasion to support both a meaningful cultural and charity cause, and local talents.
Celebrity Donnie Yen will attend the gala dinner to support the charity cause.
The ‘Art-is-on Cow Project’ involves ten local talents who choose their medium including water-painting, canvas, printmaking and multi-media to create their own cow installations, drawing inspirations from different sources. The artist line-up includes Philip Hemnell, Szabotage, Louise Soloway Chan, Chi Chi Cheng, Eleanor McColl, Man Chun Kwong, Angela Yuen, Angel Hui and Kwok Man Wai, Rainbow and King Rhomberg,

Artists’ bios and their artworks:
Philip Hemnell – Artwork: The Pink Cow
Born in Ipoh, Malaysia to an English father and Chinese mother, Philip Hemnell has always been influenced by both distinct cultures. Each has strongly influenced his personal art collection, an eclectic amassing of paintings, prints, photography and antiques with the earliest pieces dating to his childhood in Ipoh. Philip’s collection now numbers over 300 works, from vintage Malaysian paintings to modern street style art by American artists such as Shepard Fairey and Faile.
Szabotage – Artwork: Cow Hide
Szabotage is a Hong Kong based, award-winning street artist and interior designer. A former East London resident, his work and subjects are often a mix of popular culture and vivid use of bold colors. His works encompass cult subject matters depicting local Hong Kong street scenes – painting live and capturing real time action on canvas. Szabotage was a finalist in Secret Walls Hong Kong, a global street art phenomenon, and was widely reported in the local press where he became well known for his old-school graffi: and onstage antics. Patrons include Jaeger LeCoultre, Deutsche Bank Haymarket Media, The Ritz-Carlton.
Louise Soloway Chan – Artwork: Yum Cha
Louise received her education in England and awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship from Baroda Faculty of Fine Arts in India. She has done ten exhibitions and sixteen group shows across London, Hong Kong, China and India. Some of her exhibitions and group shows highlights include ‘Working Girls’ Hillside Gallery at Edinburgh Festival, ‘Addressing the Forbidden’ at Brighton Festival in Museum of London Transport, Shang-art gallery Shanghai, exhibition of foreign Artists living in China.
Chi Chi Cheng – Artwork: Today’s Nostalgia Cow
Chi Chi Cheng is a Hong Kong based visual artist, currently a Master of Art in Visual Art student at Hong Kong Baptist University. Her main medium is painting and video. In 2016 she was selected to participate in the Transcultural Collaboration program led by Zurich University of the Arts, where she used noise as a medium to create a series of sound installation, performance and videos with two musicians and a designer. She is interested in topics relating to social issues, ethics and philosophy.
Eleanor McColl – Artwork: The Moona Lisa
Eleanor McColl is a multi-disciplinary artist, based in Hong Kong. She studied Fine Art at U.W.E Bristol, in England and came to Hong Kong in 1999 to pursue her career as an artist and art educator.
McColl works in a variety of media, from oil painting and collage to photomontage. Her work is rooted in place, with a focus on the human traces found within the urban environment.
Her hand woven photographs capture the frenetic zest of Hong Kong, the unending activity and the nebulous, neon experience of metropolitan life, while her paintings evoke a more ethereal feel.
Man Chun Kwong – Artwork: The Hermit
Kwong Man Chun graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University in 2013, a painter who is interested in exploring complex emotional sediments embodied by local histories, memories and anecdote stories. His works have been shown in "Fresh Trend 2013 Art Graduates Joint Exhibition", "Power of Narrative - The Life of the Invisible "(2014) a travelling exhibition shown in five community spaces, "Babbling to Learn - KWONG Man Chun and LAI Wai Shan"(2014) at Mdd Gallery and other art spaces.
Angela Yuen – Artwork: The Toy Kaleidoscope Cow
Angela Yuen graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University in 2014, is interested in observing people’s ways of connection. She went to Linfiled College in the U.S. for an exchange program in 2013 to develop her installation art and
received the Dean's List Honors. Her works have been shown in Hong Kong and Beijing.
Angel Hui – Artwork: The Blue and White Cow
Hui Hoi Kiu received her BA (Hons) in Visual Arts from the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2014. She is currently studying in Experimental Art of the Master of Art programme at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Beijing. She studies and works in between Hong Kong and Beijing.
Hui is awarded a scholarship from China Education Development Foundation in 2016. She attained Silver Award of New Art Wave International Artist in 2015, and Outstanding Award from the 10th ‘L&XF’ China Fashion Illustration Competition in 2011, and also was one of the finalists of The Hong Kong Fine Art Prize in 2014. She exhibited at galleries and art spaces in Hong Kong, Macau, Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Australia. In 2016, Hui was invited by Lane Crawford and to create an art window display that expresses her modern interpretation of Chinese traditions.
Kwok Man Wai, Rainbow – Artwork: The Silver Lining
Rainbow graduated from Bachelor of Visual Art Degree from HK Baptist University in 2013. She has been involved in five exhibitions since her graduation. Highlights include Chairs, Lei Yue Mun Gallery Hong Kong, HiF Cloud: Wearable Technologies, Queensland University of Technology Brisbane, Australia, Y.WASTE, K11 Art Mall Hong Kong.
King Rhomberg – Artwork: Cow for Cause

ABOUT THE GREAT EUROPEAN CARNIVAL (TGEC)
The Great European Carnival Ltd (TGEC) is the producer of the annual Hong Kong event called The AIA Great European Carnival. The Great European Carnival takes place between December and February each year, on the Central Harbourfront Event Space. The event features amusement rides, carnival skill games, seasonal markets and performances on a community stage. This year the Carnival will run at the Central Harbourfront Event Space from 16th December.
