Crisis and Emergency Management Conference 2010 Concludes with Recommendations on Well Preparedness

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Crisis and Emergency Management Conference 2010 concluded today its 3-day agenda from 11 to 13 January 2010 at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Researches.

The conference underlined the importance of good preparedness since disasters might not be avoided, but well preparedness may minimize their impact.

The conference witnessed many workshops, initiatives and bilateral agreements. The lectures stressed on the importance of government readiness and preparedness to response to emergencies and crises, where subjects tackled the peaceful use of nuclear power, especially that the UAE is preparing for safety and security measures in nuclear facilities. Also the H1N1 epidemic was discussed regarding the best ways to face it nationwide in the UAE and the success of the global strategies and plans that stopped it from spreading.

The conference focused also on the potential political and security risks in the Middle East, the role of the telecoms sector during crises and many more relevant topics.

Participants were around 40 speakers that represented lectures and participated in workshops, such as Jason McNamara, Chief of Staff at Federal Emergency Management Agency and Associate VP and Director of Emergency Management at Homeland Security for Dewberry & Davis LLC, Richard A. Clark, Chairman of Good Harbor Consulting, Carl Rostcher, CEO Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs, Frank Congel, Director of Incident Response Operations at the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and other specialists from the UAE.

The conference also witnessed the launching of the UAE Volunteer Program through SANID (Support) initiative, the Abu Dhabi Prepared initiative, and the national emergency plan for the telecoms sector among the UAE Telecoms Regulatory Authority and the National Crisis & Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA), to ensure the continuity of work during crises and to ensure the safety of the telecoms sector that is considered vital and important in time of crises.

The conference recommended setting up a website for participants to exchange opinions and experiences in the field of crisis management and response.
