STMicroelectronics and UMC Representatives Join GSA Board of Directors

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) today announces the additions of Loic Lietar, corporate vice president of STMicroelectronics, and Jason Wang, president of United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC-USA) to its board of directors. GSA’s board is comprised of 22 industry executives who are representative of the global regions in which GSA holds active memberships.

Mr. Lietar was appointed by GSA’s board to represent the Europe, Middle East, and African (EMEA) region as one of the EMEA Regional Leadership Directors. This supports GSA’s new structure where the GSA board elects up to two leadership directors from Asia Pacific, Japan, North America and EMEA regions. He was chosen for his vision to expand the Alliance’s reach globally to guarantee GSA’s graphic diversity.

Mr. Lietar serves as a corporate vice president of STMicroelectronics, responsible for the Company's Corporate Business Development and has held this position since January 2008. Mr. Lietar holds a MBA from Columbia University, New York and degrees in Engineering and Microelectronics from the Ecole Polytechnique and Orsay University in Paris.

"I appreciate this appointment to serve on GSA's Board of Directors. In addition to the challenge of keeping pace with Moore’s law while moving aggressively to reduce power consumption, the semiconductor industry is entering new territories central to our society, such as energy saving and healthcare. All this requires collective thinking among the industry players to foster innovation and market development through collaboration. GSA is a forum which I believe can help address these exciting challenges and I look forward to contributing to the Alliance’s initiatives,” stated Loic Lietar.

Mr. Wang was appointed president of UMC-USA in June 2009, since joining the company in 2008 as vice president of corporate marketing. He is responsible for North America business strategy development and operation efficiency enhancement. Mr. Wang is a seasoned executive with more than 24 years of experience in the semiconductor industry in various management positions in corporate strategy, business development and operations. Mr. Wang completed his undergraduate study in Business Administration from San Jose State University.

“I am delighted to serve on GSA’s Board of Directors. UMC has greatly benefited from being a member of GSA since its inception and I now want to contribute to the goals and principles of the organization to further guide GSA’s initiatives,” said Wang.

Wang filled the director position previously held by Tony Yu, advisor of UMC, who retired last year. He is one of the three foundry representative positions.

“I warmly welcome Loic and Jason to our Board,” said Jodi Shelton, GSA co-founder and executive director. “Loic’s leadership and expertise will lend further guidance to GSA in the EMEA region and Jason’s knowledge in representation of the foundry position ensures that we have a board that reflects the make up of the complete global semiconductor supply chain. I feel honored to have these outstanding leaders join the board and look forward to their impact as we look to an exciting new year.”
