Pfizer China today announced the launch of the 'Be a Healthier Beijing Citizen - Mother and Infant Health Action' program in collaboration with the Beijing Bureau of Health (BOH) and the Beijing Hui Min Pharmaceutical & Health Development Foundation (Hui Min Foundation). As an important part of the 10-year "Be a Healthier Beijing Citizen" plan, this program will be administrated by the Beijing BOH and carried out by Hui Ming Foundation, Beijing Association of Maternal and Child Health and Beijing Preventive Medicine Association. The program will involve community health education and promotion activities to enhance the awareness, health, and wellbeing of people in the local communities, particularly in the area of maternal and infant healthcare.
The launch event for the program was held at the Beijing Hotel today. In attendance were Mr. Fang Laiying, Director of BOH; Mr. Jean-Michel Halfon, President & General Manager of Pfizer Emerging Markets Business Unit; Mr. Al Gabor, Regional President of Pfizer North Asia; Dr. Wu Xiaobing, Country Manager, Pfizer China; and leaders from the Beijing Hui Min Foundation, Beijing Association of Maternal and Child Health, and Beijing Preventive Medicine Association.
The program will provide comprehensive healthcare education to families in Beijing, especially those with infants and pregnant women. It will focus on improving awareness of physical and emotional health and disease prevention for infants under 3 years of age, enabling enhanced self-help capabilities for mothers with infants. Utilizing its expertise in infant nutrition and disease prevention, Pfizer will actively participate in this program and contribute to the enhancement of Beijing community people's health.

The Beijing government launched the "Be a Healthy Beijing Citizen - 10 Year Public Health Promotion Task Plan (2009-2018)" in 2009 to further improve the health indexes of local citizens and build Beijing into an international metropolitan. The plan includes nine major tasks, such as health education, healthier diet, smoking control, self-help healthcare, prevention and treatment of cancers, and maternal & infant healthcare, etc. In response to one of the key tasks, the "Mothers and Infant Health Action" program will help develop community healthcare services, strengthen the development of the primary healthcare system and increase the standard of disease prevention and control.
The program will implement mother and infant health education and disease prevention education at key communication healthcare centers and healthcare institutes for women and infants in Beijing and provide continuing medical education for community healthcare providers.
