The MulteFire Alliance and the Alliance of Industrial Internet Announce Collaboration to Advance Industrial IoT Connectivity

BEIJING & FREMONT, Calif.--()--The MulteFire Alliance, an international association dedicated to building a global ecosystem in support of mobile cellular technology in unlicensed and shared spectrum, and the Alliance of Industrial Internet (AII), a joint effort of industrial sectors to accelerate the development of industrial Internet, have announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore LTE connectivity for the industrial internet. A signing ceremony took place on September 1 at the 2018 Yangtze River Delta Industrial Internet Summit in Shanghai. Together, the MulteFire Alliance and AII will advance MulteFire™ technology operation in the industrial internet as well as harmonize various aspects of connectivity.

“Wireless technology could be deployed flexibly and reduce wiring costs. Robust wireless connectivity is important to the transformation of the manufacturing industry in China and abroad, and it is a major component for the industrial internet,” said Xiaohui Yu, General Secretary, AII. “We believe that MulteFire is a critical technology for enabling industrial IoT, and we look forward to collaborating with the MulteFire Alliance.”

“The MulteFire Alliance believes that private LTE networks for industrial IoT and enterprise are prime use cases that will benefit from MulteFire technology, and we welcome this collaboration with AII to advance our vision for deploying LTE and next-gen cellular technology in unlicensed and shared spectrum,” said Mazen Chmaytelli, President, MulteFire Alliance, and Sr. Director Business Development, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Working together, we can help make commercial deployment of MulteFire for industrial IoT use cases in China and around the world a reality.”

The MulteFire Alliance and AII will collaborate on the following:

  • Test beds and research and development projects
  • Coordinate in promoting the industrial internet industry and standards
  • Establish a good understanding of how to deploy cellular technologies in unlicensed and shared spectrum for industrial internet use cases

MulteFire Open Day – Beijing

The MulteFire Open Day, hosted by Huawei, will take place at the Vision Hotel in Beijing from 2-5pm on September 25. This half-day session will feature an update on MulteFire technology development, the market opportunity for MulteFire, and a panel discussion on MulteFire for enterprise and industrial IoT.
