BARCELONA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today announced that KPN Netherlands has started deploying Roaming Director, its real-time solution for steering of roaming. KPN Netherlands is the largest mobile operator in the country with close to eight million subscribers. With Gemalto’s solution, subscribers will use KPN’s preferred partners when traveling, which enables them to benefit from the operator’s latest services abroad.

Gemalto’s real time traffic steering solution enables KPN Netherlands to dynamically connect subscribers to its preferred partners through a transparent and seamless process for the end user. Roaming Director complements the usual network-based steering methods with the SIM-OTA technology. This combination increases tremendously the efficiency of traffic redirection and offers compatibility with all handsets, including smart phones. The customer experience is also enhanced. End users can immediately place a call or send an SMS, as soon as they arrive abroad.

Roaming Director offers an intuitive graphical interface for KPN Netherlands to monitor traffic distribution in real time by country and by operator. With the Gemalto solution, the roaming manager can easily fine-tune traffic redirection according to his business requirements.

A large proportion of KPN Netherlands customers travel abroad for business or leisure so it was essential for the operator to provide excellent quality of service to roamers,” commented Philippe Vallée, Executive Vice President, Telecommunications Business Unit at Gemalto. “This new contract reinforces Gemalto’s leadership in the roaming market. It also confirms our ability to provide software and services that help operators to enhance their subscribers’ mobile experience.”
