Compact CP 50TM ECG Offers Simplicity, Speed, and Flexible Connectivity Options

SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Welch Allyn, a leading manufacturer of frontline medical products and solutions, today introduced a lightweight electrocardiograph that is connectivity-ready and designed for use in settings where flexibility and efficiency are of utmost importance. Now available in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin America, the Welch Allyn CP 50TM ECG has an intuitive design and functionality and offers the speed and power of a fully-featured ECG in a compact, portable size. In addition to administering patient tests at the push of a button, the device can interface with the Welch Allyn CardioPerfectTM Workstation Software to connect patient data to an electronic health record (EHR), health information system (HIS), over the Internet, or through e-mail.

"The digital age is having a profound impact on the way we develop our products," says Peter Glocker, international category director, Cardiopulmonary at Welch Allyn. "Connectivity and efficiency are on everyone's minds-from hospitals to the remote clinics to the office-based physician. The CP 50 has a number of connectivity options to help shape the future of healthcare delivery beyond traditional approaches to connect, manage, and share patient information-and improve patient care in the process."

According to Datamonitor market research report "Opportunities in the Electronic Health Record Market," the global market for EHRs is expected to grow to almost $13 billion by 2012-a compound annual growth rate of 23.8%. It finds that the design, selection and implementation of EHRs will be extremely important for healthcare institutions, and that as EHR systems become more advanced they will require solutions from multiple vendors-including medical device companies that offer products with the ability to connect to these systems.

"Healthcare providers are trying to do more with less, so easy-to-use devices that can administer tests, interface with other systems and reduce documentation time are in huge demand," Glocker added. "This flexible electrocardiograph offers the best of both worlds-simple, accurate testing and intuitive data management capabilities."

The Welch Allyn CP 50 has a touchscreen display that facilitates one-button operation-guiding caregivers through each test quickly and easily. It also provides on-screen instructions that save time and ensure accurate data capture by highlighting poor signals and connections. The device comes equipped with an integrated high-resolution thermal printer that generates ECG reports in customizable formats. The optional MEANS ECG interpretation program provides a second silent opinion. Finally, with the connection to the Welch Allyn CardioPerfect Workstation, users have access to a full range of paperless ECG data management solutions and flexible connectivity solutions such as EHR/HIS systems, telemedicine and web access.

"This device offers tangible benefits like a reliable touchscreen display, an instant-on feature and programmable report formats," added Glocker. "But it's the intangible benefits like ease of use, reliability and speed that physicians and patients will appreciate the most."

The CP 50 is the latest addition to the Welch Allyn line of EHR-ready cardiopulmonary devices, including:

  • CP 100TM ECG
  • CP 200TM ECG
  • PC-Based Resting ECG
  • Exercise Stress ECG
