Elliptic Labs creates these critical user experiences by using patented algorithms, proprietary machine learning (ML) tools and sensor fusion to create AI Virtual Smart Sensors. This AI Virtual Smart Sensor Platform enables OEMs to add innovative new touchless gestures, create sleek new form factors, and to enhance the device’s security – all while saving power, reducing cost, eliminating unwanted access to the device and adding features. Through this collaboration, Elliptic Labs and Qualcomm Technologies will work together to facilitate, validate and support OEMs in the implementation of Elliptic Labs’ suite of AI Virtual Smart Sensors on the Snapdragon 865 including its latest 5th generation Qualcomm® Artificial Intelligence Engine. With this new Elliptic Labs’ enabled solution, OEMS are empowered to create bezel-less full screen mobile devices with cleaner designs by eliminating the need for hardware infrared (IR) sensors, instead utilizing the device’s other existing hardware sensors to provide software-based proximity detection with the INNER BEAUTY AI Virtual Proximity Sensor and touchless gestures with the AI Virtual Gesture Sensor.
“We are excited to be working with Qualcomm Technologies to offer our AI Virtual Smart Sensor Platform for devices based on Snapdragon 865,” said Laila Danielsen, Elliptic Labs CEO. “With the competitive landscape of the smartphone industry, more and more OEMs need to provide exciting and valuable new features to differentiate their offerings. As an innovator and leader in this space, Elliptic Labs brings these critical experiences to these OEMs. This collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies will only expedite and enhance our ability to deliver this value to our OEM partners.”
“As the smartphone segment matures and users’ expectations of smartphone features and capabilities grow, OEMs will be expected to add new smart experiences that don’t require extra hardware sensors or power consumption,” said Manvinder Singh, Vice President, Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
Elliptic Labs has already shipped its Virtual Proximity Sensor INNER BEAUTY on Xiaomi’s Redmi K30 Pro and Mi 10 Pro, both of which are based on Snapdragon 865. Further commercial launches of devices based on Snapdragon 865 with Elliptic Labs’ AI Virtual Smart Sensor Platform are anticipated to happen throughout 2020. This collaboration between Elliptic Labs and Qualcomm Technologies anticipates continued collaboration for future premium Snapdragon mobile platforms.
