Now Offers Industry’s Only Kiosk-Based Multiple Simultaneous Sessions Capability
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Passlogix®, Inc., today announced an innovation that dramatically accelerates user sign-on to clinical kiosks and shared workstations with the newest edition of v-GO® Session Manager™ (v-GO SM), its market-leading solution for automating user sign-on and sign-off of kiosk sessions. v-GO SM 7.0 introduces “multi-session capability” that reduces user logon time to a little over a second by initiating and managing multiple user sessions simultaneously on a kiosk.
v-GO SM is designed to expedite doctors’ and nurses’ access to patient information by automating logon to clinical applications with single sign-on technology, while also protecting patient privacy by automatically locking unattended kiosks to prevent unauthorized users from viewing patient records.
Previously, that protection was provided by automatically terminating an unattended user session. The just-released v-GO SM 7.0 now preserves the existing session for when that user returns, even if a new user begins to use that kiosk; keeps multiple sessions open on a kiosk at one time; and provides very fast switching between sessions. This saves time while still maintaining full compliance with HIPAA security regulations because:
- The next user can sign on while the first user’s session is still active, eliminating delays caused when waiting for the first user’s applications and session to close.
- When the first user returns, he/she re-authenticates by selecting his/her session from a list of open sessions on the screen and entering his/her credentials to verify the user’s identity.
- Once the user is authenticated, the kiosk displays the last screen on the last application used before he/she left and also provides access to other previously opened applications, eliminating both relaunch and navigation time.
Administrators can configure v-GO SM to support any number of simultaneous sessions, limited only by the memory available on the kiosk. v-GO is the only client-side technology that supports multiple sessions without requiring any change to how applications are deployed.
“In a clinical setting, every second counts. Other solutions intended to simplify kiosk access waste time by requiring users to repeatedly restart the same applications and navigate to patient records every time they logon to a kiosk, as well as requiring each user to wait for the previous user’s session to terminate,” said Passlogix vice president of strategy and product management Stephane Fymat, “v-GO is the first major sign-on solution to completely eliminate these delays, saving precious time that can be used for more critical activities such as patient care.”
v-GO SM is a component of the market-leading v-GO Access Accelerator Suite, an integrated set of single sign-on, authentication and provisioning products designed to increase user productivity, improve security and enable regulatory compliance. Passlogix has sold more than 15 million licenses of v-GO, including 500,000+ to healthcare enterprises from community health systems to Kaiser Permanente.
Suite components widely used in the healthcare environment include v-GO Single Sign-on for single sign-on to individual machines; v-GO Session Manager for user session management on clinical kiosks and shared workstations; and v-GO Authentication Manager for extending the reach of strong authentication devices such as smart cards to applications without requiring any modifications to those applications. Other v-GO products securely manage shared passwords for administrators and others who must share account IDs; integrate v-GO with identity management systems to enable the automated provisioning of credentials to v-GO; and automate the resetting of Windows logon passwords.
