WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services Inc. (STTAS), the leading provider of government and private sector tariff, trade and customs services, proudly announces that George J. Weise will join the Firm as Executive Vice President to lead STTAS’ Government Services Practice on May 3, 2010. Mr. Weise will reside in the Washington D.C. office.
With over 35 years of service in both the public and private sectors, Weise possesses unparalleled experience in Customs and International Trade matters.
As Commissioner of the U.S. Customs Service from 1993 to 1997, he managed more than 20,000 employees and led the implementation of an historic reorganization and modernization of U.S. Customs.
Previously, as Staff Director for the Subcommittee on Trade of the House Ways and Means Committee, Weise’s leadership, technical expertise, and negotiating skills were crucial to the achievement of major trade initiatives including NAFTA, the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, and the Customs Modernization Act. These achievements, and enthusiastic support by the trade community, led to his appointment as Commissioner of Customs by President Clinton.
Following his retirement from government service, Weise held executive level positions in the private sector advising clients on international trade and global compliance issues. Today, he is recognized as one of the foremost authorities on customs, trade and supply chain matters.
Commenting on this appointment, Tom Travis, chairman of the board of STTAS and managing partner of the law firm, Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A, stated, “George is an exceptional leader and innovator whose international, business and government experience will be invaluable to the Firm’s clients.”
