The International College of Surgeons Announces the Unveiling of "The Finger Assisted Nephrectomy" Painting at the House of Lords

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The International College of Surgeons has announced the unveiling of the painting "The Finger Assisted Nephrectomy" by Henry Ward hosted by Baroness Finlay at the House of Lords on June 1, 2010.

In this painting by Henry Ward, Professor Nadey S. Hakim, a distinguished transplant surgeon, provides emphasis to one of the most significant social issues of current time - the generation of awareness of the need for live, legal organ donors. Professor Hakim devotes significant time and effort in the interest of providing help to as many in need as possible in the field of transplantation.

Dr. Frank Delmonico, President-Elect, The Transplantation Society, and invited guest of Professor Hakim, presented remarks on the current status of global human organ transplantation and current global guiding principles pertaining to organ donation.

This emphasis is supported by the engagement of Henry Ward to paint the "The Finger Assisted Nephrectomy". Mr. Ward's exquisite work has been accepted for inclusion in the prestigious London National Gallery, BP Portrait Award 2010. "The Finger Assisted Nephrectomy" is one of 55 selections out of a total consideration of approximately 2000 submissions.

Professor Nadey S. Hakim is the Past President of the International College of Surgeons, based in Chicago, USA, with members in over 100 countries. Key missions of the International College of Surgeons are education and communication, both accomplished by this acclaimed artistic work. Featured in the painting are other surgeons within the International College of Surgeons. The International College of Surgeons is in official relations with the World Health Organization as a Non-Governmental Organization.

“The Finger Assisted Nephrectomy” will be on permanent display at the International Museum of Surgical Science in Chicago, following the exhibition at the London National Gallery and International tour.
