We recognized that some Asian business researchers are not satisfied with existing global financial databases because none of them are focused on Asia and because the existing databases require users themselves to process and tabulate their own data to make comparisons among businesses in different countries. That led us to develop eol Asia One, a database with a built-in interface available in multiple languages, including Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean.

Our previous efforts have included the development of eol DB, a financial database for companies listed on the stock market in Japan that included various search functions and enabled comprehensive analyses of business information. With the development of eol Asia One we expand the scope of potential users to include universities, research organizations, financial organizations and investors both within Japan and abroad who wish to review and analyze businesses throughout Asia.

The Unique Characteristics of eol Asia One

1. A business financial database dedicated to Asia, covering 12,500 Asian businesses

Business information for a total of 12,500 businesses will be included, covering Japan and 8 regions in Asia.

Businesses entered as of April: approximately 4,000 for Japan, approximately 6,000 for China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea (data entry complete)

Businesses to be entered for October: approximately 2,500 for Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand (planned)

• Data to be entered for each country: basic business information, financial information, exchange information, data on materials made public, share price information (with plans to add more content as time permits)
• Plans call to further increase scope of data and range of businesses within Asia by 2012.

2. Compare Businesses in Different Regions using the Same Format, the Same Account Titles

eol provides financial data for each country's businesses in a standardized summary financial format, making it easy to compare business from different regions. It is also possible to select types of businesses across regions using eol's pre-defined classifications as well.

3. Switch among Four Languages, including Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean and Among Seven Different Currency Displays

Field names for financial information in the eol interface can be displayed in any of four different languages. Furthermore, the displayed currency units can be switched from among Japanese yen, US dollars, euros, Chinese yuan, Taiwanese yuan, Korean won and Hong Kong dollars, instantly converting data as you go.

4. Financial Comparison supervised by Accounting Specialists

Specialists with experience in auditing Asian and Japanese businesses provide accurate financial comparisons, including collections of financial account titles and summaries of financial data that consider differing accounting standards, and then perform mapping (correlating account titles across regional boundaries). We therefore provide quality business data that has been summarized and reviewed by accounting professionals.

5. Available for Use by Asian Business Researchers and Investors

Asian business financial information, particularly for China and Korea, has a great impact on world economics, and we are responding to a wide class of user needs, both within Japan and abroad, maintaining a sales network that can approach different users, including Asian economic researchers throughout the world and investors targeting Asian businesses.
