European Innovative R&D-based Pharma and Early EDC Adopter Renews and Extends Use of Leading Clinical Trial Technology
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Medidata Solutions (NASDAQ: MDSO), a leading global provider of SaaS-based clinical development solutions, today announced that European pharmaceutical company Orion has extended its use of Medidata Rave® as its enterprise-wide electronic data capture (EDC) and clinical data management (CDM) system, which Orion successfully brought in-house and deployed for all clinical trials for the past three and a half years.
Orion is an innovative R&D-based pharmaceuticals and diagnostics company with an emphasis on developing medicinal treatments and diagnostic tests for global markets. Orion is developing treatments in central nervous system disorders; oncology and critical care; and respiratory medicine, and has a wide portfolio of marketed brand-name and generic medicines.
Orion originally selected Medidata Rave as its EDC platform after an extensive global search based on its easy-to-use, easy-to-learn and flexible platform; robust capabilities for data cleansing and query capture; and Knowledge Transfer program. As a research-savvy development shop, Orion’s goal was to use Rave on its own for all its trials, across all phases and therapeutic areas. The Orion clinical research team accomplished its goal of bringing the Rave trial functions in-house using the knowledge transfer program in collaboration with Medidata, synchronizing with its own development workflows to create a smooth, rapid process for trial set-up and deployment, and reaping additional benefits across multiple trials.
“Our collaboration with Medidata has allowed us to build a clinical study process that meets our internal goals and preferences while utilizing the most advanced technology available,” said Taru Blom, vice president of development at Orion Pharma and vice president of development R&D at Orion Corporation. “We are now able to coordinate and manage our clinical information through quick access to clean, real-time data, with a level of communication among our study teams that enhances our research efforts. We value Medidata’s customer and end user-driven focus, and are excited about their new technology solutions that support Medidata’s vision of an enhanced, optimal clinical development process.”
Orion has been a leader in adopting technology into the drug development process, driving industry interest groups and sharing best practices. Over the past several years, Orion has led the development of the European Medidata User Group (E-MUG), delivered presentations at a range of industry conferences and forums on eClinical aspects and participated in the creation of investigational site surveys to assess current use of EDC on a worldwide basis.
“Orion has proven consistent in its strategy of leveraging clinical development solutions that not only deliver cost, time and resource savings, but also improve the clinical development process,” said Tarek Sherif, chairman and CEO, Medidata Solutions. “Medidata has benefited greatly from our collaboration with the Orion team, and their leadership in the industry is a tribute to their innovation and vision.”
