WAUKESHA, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dresser Waukesha, a leading manufacturer of natural gas engines that deliver clean, cost-effective power has been awarded a contract to supply three of its new 16V275GL+ high-performance engines to a Horn River Basin gas production site in northeast British Columbia, Canada.
The three 4835 bhp 16V275GL+ units will join three of Waukesha’s 4500 bhp 16V275GL engines already on site. Like the three earlier units, the 16V275GL+ engines are being packaged by Enerflex Ltd., Dresser Waukesha’s Canadian distributor.
The 275GL Series engines are designed to simplify and improve packaging, operation and service. 275GL engines with the “+” designation have a series of competitive advantages that include 0.5 g/bhp-hr NOx capability, 2% better fuel efficiency and Waukesha’s well-known fuel flexibility for maximum performance on a wide range of fuels. With its 4835 bhp rating at 1000 rpm, the 16V275GL+ delivers the most power in its class maximizing throughput and customer profits.
Fuel flexibility was an important consideration in engine selection for the Horn River project. The gas onsite has heating values below 800 Btu/ft3, which is lower than those typically found in compression applications. The ability of the Waukesha 275GL Series to operate successfully on fuels with heating values as low as 600 Btu/ft3 figured prominently in the decision-making process.
The fuel efficiency and added horsepower of the 16V275GL+ engine were also important considerations, according to Enerflex’s Bill Moore, President, International. He reported that the start-up of the first 275GL Series unit went smoothly and that the engine is “performing very well.”
The 275GL Series engines, first introduced in 2009, have quickly proved popular. In addition to the installations in Canada, 275GL Series engines have been sold for projects in China, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Poland, Algeria and Colombia. The 12V275GL+ and the 16V275GL+ are also being packaged into generator sets and sold into power generation applications.
